The new year kicked off with a pre-season training camp in southern Spain.

January consisted of five games, which included four friendlies in Spain and the first OTP league game of the new year. The squad travelled out to Marbella for a training camp that would include four friendly games against opponents from Switzerland and Germany. The training camp also gave Joan Carrillo the ideal chance to work with his squad ahead of the spring season. The Spanish coach returned to Vidi in November and the many games meant that he did not have the quality time to practice the new elements that he wished to bring. The first competitive match of 2020 was played in Sotogrand, Spain against Swiss second division side Winterthur. Carrillo fielded two different sides in each half. In the end Radice scored the winning goal close to the final whistle following a corner to give Winterthur a 1-0 win.
Another Swiss side provided the opposition for Vidi's second game in Spain. This time it was FC Sion. The pre-season friendly game took place close to Gibraltar at La Linea. Ivan Petryak curled the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 early on. However, the lead did not last long as a penalty was converted powerfully by Grgic to make it 1-1. Several youngsters came on in the second half to offer Carrillo more possibilities. The game ended in a 1-1 draw as the players continued to work hard ahead of the second half of the 2019/2020 season.
Vidi faced German Bundesliga 2 side VFL Bochum in what was the third friendly game of pre-season. Two second half goals gave the German side the win in another good work out for MOL Fehervar FC. Vidi had chances throughout but could not find a way through their opponents defence. However, the main purpose of training camps is building up fitness and continuing to practice the tactical elements needed for the busy second half of the season.
Vidi played the last of their friendly games before travelling back to Hungary. They were up against German second division side VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart took an early lead before doubling their lead during the first period. Vidi tried to produce attacking moves in what was their final friendly game. Although Stuttgart would score a further goal in the second half, a cross from Kovacs ended with Petryak finding the back of the net from a tight angle to make the final score 1-3. Joan Carrillo said after the friendly game that "I liked playing against strong sides like these. I feel that it lets us develop our game. We also gave other players the chance to play, which is what the training camp is about. I liked the attitude shown by the boys and the work they have put in during the two weeks."
The second half of the season started early on the 25th January against Honved at the MOL Arena Sosto. A crowd of over 3000 were present to see a Vidi side that would also include a debut from winter signing Lyes Houri. The red and blues went into the game in second place following the winter break. Loic Nego suffered an injury after 42 minutes and although he was able to return to play moments later, it was obvious that he would need to be replaced at half time, with new signing Lyes Houri coming on. It was a tight game with Honved being reduced to 10 men following the sending off to Aliji. However, there would be no goals as the first league game of 2020 ended in a 0-0 draw.
