Joan Carrillo: Everyone has behaved professionally during the new situation

We hear the thoughts of Vidi manager Joan Carrillo during the current difficult situation.

Our manager spoke over the phone to M1 during the week about the suspension to the league season. You can read below what the Vidi manager said during the phone interview.

- How have you been battling with the current situation?
- This is an equally difficult situation for everyone but we have no choice currently. We all need to adapt to the situation if we are to overcome the virus. Considering my own situation: I am here in Hungary and my family are back in Spain, which is very hard. We continue to watch the news and talk as often as we can. I try to keep to my daily routine to make it that much easier to get through this period.

- You are also trying to remain in form just like the players?
- As I mentioned, I try to keep to a daily routine. With the exception of Sunday, I go into the empty stadium where I can complete my daily work. I then do some sport in the afternoon to try and clear my head.

- We read that the players have been given an individual training program. How do these work?
- The players are preparing at home. They receive the program for the following week on a Sunday, which they need to stick to. Some times our weekly program is for 5 days or 6 days. The most important is that we keep our strength and stamina as much as possible during this period. We have several things that we can use to monitor their performance and condition. The Polar watch helps us give a continuous reading of their training work with the help of some software. We also try to gather feedback involving the mental condition of the players. Our fitness coach and physio's have been working really well and the attitude of the players is good. They have all been very professional during this new situation.

- What do you think will happen to the league season?
- I do not have any influence here and everything depends on how this virus spreads. It would be lucky if the Association's could agree uniformly on one of the scenarios. Naturally I want the season to continue as games on the pitch decide things. If the season could be relaunched, I think that would be a good message socially as well. It would symbolise that we have gotten through this tough period and things could slowly return to normal.

- Would you personally declare the season over or would you like to still play on the pitch?
- Yes, I want us to play our games but only when the health of everyone is assured. I like my work and I also like competition, just like the players. I feel that everyone, including the supporters would like us to complete the season on the pitch. For that, of course, we need to be able to play in safe conditions.

- How long do you think it will take to get the players back into the form they were before the break to the season?
- This depends on many things including how many games a week the players will need to play. Basically I can say that in the event that the players remain in good physical condition, we would need three weeks working together and also have a friendly practice game to continue where we left off. Of course, depending on the condition of the players, this time may be different for each team.
