It was decided that Videoton would continue in the first division and the local council purchases a 90% share of the club. Dr Laszlo Berczes was named the new President. Laszlo Disztl became Director of Football and a few days later, his brother Peter was given the task of coaching the young keepers at the club. The manager was Ferenc Csongradi and he was assisted by Jozsef Szabo.

Things are stable and there are changes to the squad

Miklos Vancsa had interest from several clubs abroad but the midfielder remained in Szekesfehervar. Zoran Kuntics signed a 1+1 year contract with Vidi, as the squad took shape for the season ahead. Midfielder Puskas Dragan came in from Gazszer as did Zsolt Mariasi from NK Osijek. Two strikers were signed with Zoran Djurisics arriving from DVSC and Zoltan Lukacs from the other end of the country and Sopron. Striker Gergely Fogarasi was promoted from the youth side together with Zsolt Kellner, Gabor Fesu and Arpad Mester. There was also a place in the first team squad for Tamas Szalai.

Several players left the club. Attila Domjan headed out together with Laszlo Palfi and Istvan Varga, who moved to Csakvar. Midfielder Joszip Dulics and Zsolt Dveri joined Gazszer FC, as did youngster Peter Simek. Defender Jozsef Magyar and Bela Szabo were futher departures over the summer months. 

High hopes - bottom of the league again

High hopes preceded the start of the new campaign. There were 8000 inside the stadium for the first game against Honved. Vidi attacked throughout but the visiting side remained disciplined and escaped with a 1-0 win. The red and blues suffered a 2-0 reverse away at Haladas in the next game. That set a tone for the season ahead and a year of struggle. 

New owners were announced in August. Budapest company Tracon Kft would purchase 51% of the club and they would guarantee funds for the next 5 years. They would also do their best to attract new sponsors to the football club. The good news was not reflected on the pitch with defeats to MTK 2-1, and Gazszer 2-0. 

​Manager Csongradi was in a bad mood after watching his side lose 5-0 to Debrecen. That heavy defeat came on the back of a 4-1 win over BVSC. Csongradi commented: "Some of the players only want to survive from their name and their attitude has a lot to be answered for. There are too many old players in the squad who want to play football without running." The manager would not remain for too much longer as a 3-0 defeat to Győr signalled his departure and Jozsef Verebes in his place.

Sadly he did not have a good debut as he watched his new side go down 2-1 to ZTE. Verebes promoted Zoltan Csucsanszky to coach after that game. Peter Disztl was named goalkeeping coach. There was no improvement to results with a 4-4 draw against Dunaferr. However, Verebes would be impressed by his sides fighting spirits as they battled back from 4-0 down to gain a point.

The team ended the autumn season in 18th place with just 2 wins and 3 draws, mixed in with the 12 defeats. The President did offer some good news as he confirmed the debt had been wiped out and just good results were missing.

New changes that do not prove successful

There were not only changes to the squad over the winter but on the 7th December, Geza Wittman was named as coach and Laszlo Disztl resigned as director of football. 

Istvan Kozma was brought in from Ujpest and the club also signed forward Istvan Kiss and defender Csaba Laszlo. Further arrivals included Attila Kuttor from Diosgyőr and Serb midfielder Vladan Filiipovics from Soproni Dreher. Zoltan Kuntics announced that he would be finishing his playing career. 

The second half of the season opened with a goaless draw with Honved and Haladas. The first win arrived against III Kerulet and a 2-1 victory. There were further wins against BVSC Zuglo and DVSC, which lifted the team out of the relegation place.

The final weekend of the season was dominated by the relegation positions. III Kerulet, Siofok and BVSC were all trying to avoid the drop together with Videoton. Vasas were the visitors at the Sostoi in what was a very important game. The first half did not produce any goals, and the one point picked up from the eventual 2-2 result would not be enough. Siofok had a one goal better goal difference and the Balaton side celebrated staying up while Vidi were contemplating life in the second division. A gap of 29 years came to an end, but the reality was that Vidi had fought relegation over the last 5 seasons!

The supporters remained in the stands following the final whistle. They did not believe that they had witnessed their side being relegated. The scoreboard had not been working during the game and the PA system had also been quiet during the 90 minutes. However, bits of news did filter through from the radios that supporters had brought to the game. 

Exit in the Hungarian cup

Vidi had negotiated 4 rounds but eventually fell at the final 16 hurdle. They suffered a penalty shootout defeat against Haladas.
