The season began with changes. The directors of Videoton FCF signed a two year deal with coaches Laszlo Disztl and Zoltan Csucsanszky. The club management targeted a 5-8 place finish.

The squad undergoes further changes

Several new players joined the club. Lajos Takacs signed a two year deal, while striker Laszlo Palfi returned following a spell at Stadler FC. Kaposvar keeper Arpad Milinte was another new arrival, as was forward Robert Waltner. Midfielder Tamas Schneider came from Pecs while Attila Miklos made the move from Bos. Attila Domjan continued his career with a deal at Vidi.

Departures included Norbert Toth, Tamas Peto and Onyeabor Monye to Ujpest. Midifelder Balazs Beko and defender Antal Lorincz moved to Gazszer FC. Striker Istvan Varga also joined the same club while keeper Zoltan Kujundzsics also departed. 

Season starts with defeat

Vidi made the trip to Budapest to play MTK in the season opener. Despite taking an early lead, they ended up going down 3-1. There were several draws and loses that followed until week 9 of the season. Videoton met Gazszer FC for the first time and emerged 4-2 winners with Roth, Takacs, Korsos and Dveri among the goals that day. 

That saw the Fehervar club in 6th place in the league table and Ferencvaros next up. The game saw Vidi take a lead but would come out of the game empty handed following a 4-1 defeat. Things improved in the next match and a 5-1 win over Bekescsaba. However, another defeat followed at Vac. The club president decided that a change had to be made. Week 11 of the season resulted with Vidi in 9th place in the league table. Laszlo Disztl resigned the following day and justified his decision that he was blamed for all the bad things. However, it was true that the club owed its coaches and players money for some period of time. 

Jozsef Szabo was appointed in charge as the season continued with a defeat at Kispest. Supporters in the stands held banners with the names of Disztl and Csucsanyszky. That forced Jozsef Szuna to backtrack and he offered to resign himself, which was rejected by the board. A day after the defeat in Kispest, the duo were re-appointed as first team coaches. 

The autumn came to an end with Vidi having collected 20 points, which included 5 wins, 5 draws and 8 defeats to sit in 12th place. 

Financial problems put the club on the floor

Financial problems at the club resulted in president Jozsef Szuna announcing that the continuing problems meant that those players whose contracts were due to run out at the end of the season, would not have new deals offered. Disztl was again on his way out after the club management felt that he had put them in a bad light in a comment that he made. Technical Director Gabor Horvath took over for a short period of time in training. Attila Vago was then chosen to take things on at first team level. 

Spring starts with a draw

Vágó made his debut on the bench with a 0-0 draw against MTK. That was followed by another draw and four consecutive defeats, which saw the team slip to 15th place in the table. 

Jozsef Szuna resigned on the 30th March, which this time was accepted by the board. Another to leave the same day was Attila Vago. Ferenc Csongradi and Jozsef Szabo were appointed to run the first team until the end of the season. That did not bring an improvement with further defeats and failures. 

They had to wait a while for the first point, which came in a 1-1 draw against Ferencvaros. The season came to an end with 31 points and a 16th place finish. There were 7 wins, 10 draws and 17 defeats. 

Hungarian cup

The uncertainty at the football club also affected the Hungarian cup performance. There were wins over Buki, Janossomorja ad Veszprem. Nyiregyhaza were also beaten but Videoton exited the cup with a loss to Vac.
