Adam Simon: I have not given up and need to fight hard

We caught up with midfielder Adam Simon who has worked hard to get to where he is now.

„I had really bad pains at the end of last summer, which affected my life. I was unable to sleep normally and I could feel pain with certain moves and I was not able to move as a result. I had nothing else left other than to go under the knife. My operation took place on the 8th September by Dr Tamas Lencses. Luckily the operation went well and everything succeeded. The news back then was not the best as I was told I would only be able to start training in six months time.

I did not take that news too well and I really wanted to be with the team over the winter pre-season. The most difficult part was the 6 months that followed the operation. I really could not move at all and I spent the majority of my time in bed. An average person would find it hard spending a month and a half in bed. A sports person who is used to hard daily training sessions would find it that much tougher. I was also missing the team a lot besides the movement. It really was a difficult period for me. Then you start to have thoughts in your head about possibly not being able to do sport in the future or what if my career had come to an end? Thankfully I soon got rid of these thoughts and found myself with plenty of motivation after those first 6 weeks. I spent time in the gym building myself up. I am grateful to those that helped me each day for several hours.

I was really helped by the person who had earlier helped my own mother with her knee. The experience in exercises following an operation to the spine was important. The second six week period went much faster and as I have already said, I was full of motivation. I was in such a condition at the end of November that I was able to start doing things related to football. I spent time with Videoton physio Szillard Purger. I had to rebuild all of my muscles. I am still in the middle of this process here in the training camp in Dubai. I have once again been able to train with the team this week, which is a small miracle as I was told I could only start this 6 months after my operation. I managed to do this in 4 months. I am grateful to the Videoton medical staff and also to the coach Tamas Peto. He has regularly been training with me and kept my spirits up. These are things that I can only say thanks for. Naturally my family have also helped a lot. I also have to give thanks to them. It is with their help that I was able to come back 2 months earlier. I feel that the physical things are sorted out in the head. Fortunately I am mentally strong person and if things continue to go well, then I could be available to play over the spring season" - commented Adam Simon.
