Zoltan Kovacs: Everyone was disciplined and gave their maximum

The director of football spoke about the transfer market and the pre-season so far.

– The transfer market officially opened up in January. Patrik Tischler and Zsolt Haraszti have so far linked up with the squad. Is it important for you that talented Hungarian players join the club?

– I mentioned a few weeks ago that there were no strikers within Hungary that could be moved, or even add a real plus to the team. However, we managed to bring Patrik Tischler from Puskas Academy. He is a real addition to our forward line, but I did not think at the end of last year that we could get him. Both Patrik and Zsolt Haraszti have arrived with lots of motivation. I am sure that it will have a good influence on their performances. Things did not go the way they had planned over the last half year, but they showed what they are capable of the season before and that they are good players. It would have been better to have them link up with the others at the start of the pre-season period, but we could not get them in any earlier. There is around 3 weeks until the start, and I am sure that the coaching staff will be working hard to blend them in to the team.

– Those two will be able to do their bit in the attacking part. Are you planning new players for other positions, or are you still looking for a goalscorer?

– We are not planning too much movement, and had counted on bringing in 2-3 players at the end of autumn. I will not state that we have closed things during the current window, and another arrival could happen, but we are not thinking about quantity but quality. There is quality already in the current squad. I hope that we will show this after a good pre-season period.

– You were in Spain for the second part of the training camp to take a look at the team. How did you find the two friendly games and the work on the training pitch?

– The result was not the most important aspect in the friendly games. It would have been a professional error to have prepared differently for these practice games. The players were not at their freshest, and that was understandable with plenty of work in their legs. The unity and organization within the team was good to see. There is still time to smoothen things even more. Everyone has carried out their work with discipline and a good attitude. This is a basic thing for a professional team, and we can step forward as a result.

– Mirko Ivanovski mutually left Vidi's first team squad. Are you planning to let players go out on loan or even allow them to leave Szekesfehervar?

– There may still be changes in this area. There is still time in the current transfer window, which is totally normal in the life of a team. There will be players that will not be satisfied with their current situation. We will try to find the solution in the event where a player wishes to play more matches than they currently are. The main thing is that the squad should be made up of players that will behave professionally. Only 11 players can ever be on the pitch for Vidi at any one time, which is the role of the head coach to decide which players receive his backing.

– Laszlo Kleinheisler has moved to a top league and will continue his football with German side Werder Bremen. Why was the German offer decided on in the end?

– We received concrete bids from several clubs. There were offers’ that were larger than the one we received from Werder. This all has to be weighed up in a transfer move. We need to find the solution that is good for all sides. I think that we succeeded in this for this transfer. It was good business for the club and the fact that a young Hungarian player has moved to a top league. I would like to wish Laszlo Kleinheisler the very best in the rest of his career. I am pleased that he will continue in the Bundesliga.

– How will the remaining period of pre-season go for the team?

– The nature of training will change as we continue. The first competitive match is nearing. The final bits of making sure all is fine will now begin. This will speed up in the remaining two weeks. It will be an important period and Zsolt Poloskei, Oliveira and Trebotic will all shortly recover and hopefully start playing again. I hope that all of the players will be fit by the time the season begins. Things are looking good in this area and we did not suffer any injuries during pre-season. Ferenc Horvath has had a full squad to work with.

– There is not long to go until the start of the spring season. Vidi will face Ferencvaros on the 10th February, and then play away at Ujpest three days later.

– I am pleased that we will be starting with big games. Everyone will need to be in top form by the time those games come. This will make the conception of the players easier, and the team performed well in big games during the autumn season, even against FTC. We have serious aims for the spring season, and we are looking ahead to a short, but tough period. I want us to pick up two trophies.
