Mate Patkai was born on the 6th March 1988 in Budapest. He started his career playing football for MTK. It was with the blue and whites where he made his first division debut in season 2006-2007. Patkai went on to make 110 league appearances and scored 18 goals for the Budapest club. He then moved to Győr in January 2012 and made a further 106 first division appearances for them, which produced 23 goals. That helped earn him a call up to the international team. He made his debut for his country in a game against Turkey in October 2012. The midfielder has gone on to gain 5 caps in the shirt of Hungary. He won the league title as part of the MTK side in 2008, which he repeated with Győri ETO in 2013. He also helped the latter club to the super cup.

We will go in to the new season as champions, which I have experienced to be a hard thing to defend the championship. We will do everything we can to make sure this happens. The conditions here in Szekesfehervar are great, and the player really only has to concentrate on playing football. I have already been training with the team for a few days now, but I feel that I have already managed to blend in with the others. My aim is to help Vidi by playing well. It would be good to equal the results of last season. I would say that it would be even better if we could win the league and cup double. Naturally the Champions League is also a great challenge for us. I hope that we can go as far as possible in the competition. I feel that we have things in our hands now that we know the two possible opponents" - commented Mate Patkai.

"We have looked at the way Mate has played for years and I was impressed with what I saw. He is a player who works very hard, defending in 50% of games and also attacking in the remaining 50%. He can score goals and we really need a player like this. He has proved many times that he is a player of international quality" - commented club director Győző Burcsa.
