Mihaly Nagy: "It is very hard for any Hungarian side to beat Videoton today"

We asked the coach about his thoughts on the autumn season, as well as his expectations over the coming spring season.

- You joined the coaching staff of Videoton FC last summer. What plans did you arrive with in Szekesfehervar and how would you sum up the performance of the team over the autumn?

There were worries inside me when I arrived at Videoton, but I was curious about working together with the Spanish coaches and the high quality players. The first phase of blending in was all about learning. It was important for me to quickly get to know Joan Carrillo and his understanding and methods. I feel that I managed to do this fairly quickly.  The performance of the team far exceeded my expectations. You could already sense this during the summer pre-season camp, that the mentality of the players was extremely strong. The friendly match against PSG showed that there were signs that a nice season lay ahead of us. I will admit that the advantage that we ended up with at the top of the league table at the end of the autumn season surprised me.

- One of your main roles is to continuously keep your eye on the players in the second team and the way they perform. What is your opinion on them and are there any players within that squad that could make it to the first division level?

This is very hard to say beforehand. We can say that there are footballers within that squad who have good capabilities, but as to how they continue to develop in the future is really down to them. Several players got the chance to show what they can do in both the Hungarian and league cups. I believe that they hit the level expected of them. This is all good for their development. I am regularly there at the Vidi II games, and I always discuss my experiences with Joan Carrillo, and the management of the second team. I am continuously keeping my eyes on the development of these youngsters.

- Pre-season will begin this week ahead of the spring season. What are you expecting from the second part of the league season?

I expect the same strong mentality from the players, which we got used to from them in the autumn. It is a fact that we will be playing the majority of our games away from home. However, we still expect the same level and results from them over the second part of the season. Videoton are a very difficult side for any Hungarian team to beat today, despite the matter of if we are playing at home or away. I am very optimistic with regards to the league championship.
