You were most recently the head coach at Papa, but perhaps not many will know about your earlier career. What can we know about Mihaly Nagy?

I was born in Mezotur and came through the youth ranks of the local Lajos Szabo SE as a player. My journey was not so simple, as we are talking about an army side, where every eight, and then later six months, the best youngsters were brought there to the youth system. We had to compete with them. I then moved to Siofok, Ajka, Szarvas and finally Haladas, where I ended my playing career in Szombathely. I completed the physical education course at the high school in 1996, and joined the coaching staff of Haladas at the age of 33. I then moved to Sopron, before working once again at Haladas, for their feeder side, and at times for their first team. I spent a period of a year and a half at Papa, and then a further 4 at ZTE. The latter was a really enjoyable period, bringing through international players and creating an academy. I was director of the youth system at Papa for 5 years, and also had a period in charge as head coach very recently. I started to study football 30 years ago, and since this spring, I now have all the diplomas. I also studied at Debrecen University besides football. I am married now for 25 years, with four daughters and one grandchild. The second is on the way shortly.

You have left Papa to move to Videoton FC, at the request of Győző Burcsa. Where you surprised with the approach?

It came suddenly. Before Győző Burcsa approached me, I was offered the position of head team coach at Papa for the long term, but as I had not committed myself yet to them, we met up and I listened to the plans. I asked for a little time, to be able to discuss things with my family, and my wife and kids all said that I should accept it. My wife actually said: You cannot miss out on this opportunity!

So you have left behind the chance to manage in the first division...

This is true, but the chance to coach the first team of Vidi was such a chance, which I could not think of a better one in Hungary. I will do everything I can so that the club counts on me in the long run. Videoton FC is a big club, where all the facilities are in place to achieve good results. Under the leadership of the club director and the head coach, and with my input as well, we can create perfect conditions, with discipline, but also by playing creative football to reach our targets, so I am pleased to be a part of this work. 

How long have you known the Videoton club director?

I met Győző in Sopron, so we have known each other for 20 years now. We work really well together, and he is a precise professional, who pays attention to every small detail. 

You have had many stops along the way in your career, how familiar are you with Szekesfehervar?

My father and his family were raised close to Fehervar, in a place called Inota, so I spend many periods during my childhood in the city. My cousin also played for the youth team at Vidi, so we have been following the fortunes of Videoton for a long while. When I was at Siofok, for example, as a player in the first division, there were several former Vidi players in that team, like Laszlo Tiber, Tibor Nagy, Sandor Olajos, Peter Kiss and Csaba Brettner. Miklos Szoke was also from Fehervar and he was my first coach.

You have worked a lot with young players, what can we expect from you with regards to the youngsters at Vidi?

They will find me as a hard, strict coach. I will do all I can with those youngsters that are willing to work with me. Sadly there are very few youngsters, who want to be footballers with every fibre in their body. We have to discover them and bring them through, so that we can form a side that can compete both at home and on the international stage.
