Videoton travelled out with great prestige to the Indian Nehru cup in 1989. They played under the name of the Hungarian Olympics national team against the representatives of the Socialist world. The six team tournament saw North Korea, the Polish Olympic team (in the form of the U21 side), the Iraqi youth side and the Indian Olympic team as well as the Soviet Olympic team (also U21) all feature. 

The top two teams in the group made it through to the final, which took place on the 4th February. Several thousand supporters watched the various matches, which saw Vidi beat Korea, the Polish side, Iraq and India to qualify for the final. Awaiting them were the Soviet team, who had earlier defeated Vidi in a group match. The difference this time was a great 30 meters shot from Csucsanszky and another good goal from Jovan.

Vidi prepared during the winter for the Monicomp League with a training camp in Spain. They travelled out on the 22nd January and played in friendly games against Spartak Zlatibor, Slovan, Mura 05 and a fourth practice match with local Spanish team CF Chiclana, who played their football in the fifth division. 

The game quickly started with goals and seven different players found themselves on the goalscoring sheet. Dusan Vasziljevic scored three goals. Roland Szolnoki played in that match, while squad member Tomas Tujvel did not play in the game. 

The rest is history: the good pre-season was followed by a fine spring and the first ever league title win for Videoton FC.
