Jozsef Varga was born on the 6th June 1988 in Debrecen. He started playing for local club, Italian football school at the age of 7 years old. That club also helped to produce players such as Peter Mate, Balazs Dzsudzsak and summer signing Adam Bodi. He achieved a serious breakthrough in 2000, when he was chosen as one of the best players for his age at a tournament in Italy. 

Varga was playing in the third division in season 2007/2008 when his world changed suddenly. He moved up to the first team at Debrecen and became a key player for them from the autumn of 2008. One of his most memorable goals came in the Champions League against Levski Sofia in 2009. 

Varga had a period abroad, which saw him move to German side Greuther Furth in January 2013. He spent a half season on loan at that club. With that side being relegated at the end of that season, he moved to then English second division side Middlesbrough, in a another loan deal, but this one was for a season. The English side chose not to buy him at the end of that loan period and Jozsef Varga returned to Debrecen.

He has made 155 appearances in the Hungarian first division, which has resulted in 5 goals. He has also represented Hungary in 31 international games.

"I am pleased that I have been able to switch clubs as I felt that I needed a change in surroundings. I have different feelings as I am leaving my home town club. I know the Videoton players well, and I spent lots of time with some of them in the national team previously. I know the others through being opponents on the pitch. Naturally I also know Adam Bodi, so I do not think that I will have problems adjusting. I would like to be part of plenty of success for Videoton. I would also like to put in performances that will make me proud" - commented Jozsef Varga after completing his transfer to Videoton.
