Balazs Farkas: Talking with the captain

Looking back at the autumn season just gone by

Vidi.hu speaks to club captain Balazs Farkas about the performance of Videoton over the autumn season.

- How would you sum up the autumn season on the whole?

+ The most notable perhaps is that compared to last year, the make up of the side has not changed, but we are producing a more mature game. In other words, our progress is not only thanks to the new arrivals in the summer, but the fact that this team has become more mature and developed. I would also highlight that some players produced more than they did last spring. I am thinking of players like Akos Elek or Gyorgy Sandor. The other area were we had to improve was on the right hand side of our team. With Daniel Nagy picking up an injury during the season, and missing half of it as a result, we were forced to bring in a new player on that side. Andras Gosztonyi has done well to gel in to the side, but he still needs time. I am hopeful that this positive series that has began, will continue over into the spring season. I also hope that we can play with even more self confidence. We are now in the transfer window period, which will see players both joining the club and leaving. We have already arrived at the stage, where there is not expected to be too much movement in the side.

- Failure?
+ Naturally not all of our games turned out the way we would have wanted it to, and there were some unexpected results, but luckily there were not too many downward turns. Our season opener at Siofok was poor, as was the home defeat to Honved, and I feel the 1-1 draw at home with Ferencvaros.

- The best game of the season?
+ There were many good games, and many nice turning points, like in the game with Zalaegerszeg and in the win at Kaposvar. Perhaps the win over ZTE was the more important one. The most valuable win for me was the recent home win over Ujpest, as we were without Liptak and Vasko in that game. The team was rearranged, but we managed to cover our losses and the game was decided by two such players, who had come on as substitutes. This showed us that the players on the subs bench are just as important than those who start the match.

- The goal of the season?
+ I would vote for Vasziljevics' goal at MTK. It came after a nice move: Alves and Dani Nagy did very well to break open their defence on the left hand side. The cross came in and Vujovics stepped over the ball, and it ended up with Vasziljevics, who remained very cool to roll the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net.
