Videoton knew that they were taking a gamble when they decided to renew their pitch this summer. Work got underway on June 1st, including the removal of the running track and a completely new pitch and drainage system. The new season will begin earlier than normal, but the club had no option but to dig up the old pitch, which had not been touched for many years. The old pitch was simply not upto the standard for domestic league matches let alone Europa league games. This summer has also seen record levels of rain in Hungary, which no one had counted on.

The game with Maribor is due to go ahead on Thursday 15th July. However, the club had to notify UEFA of the location of the game today. There was still no guarantee that the main pitch at the Sostoi stadium would be ready by then, and Videoton FC could not take the risk of nominating their own stadium.

The game will now take place in Gyor at the ETO Park stadium. The decision taken by the clubs management only applies to one game. In the event that Vidi progress through to the next round, then naturally the game will be played at the Sostoi stadium in Szekesfehervar. The club will do all it can to make it as easy as possible for as many fans to travel to Gyor to support the team.
