It was a year ago that Gyorgy Mezey agreed to take over the day-to-day running of the first team. He said at the time that he would do this for a season. The year has gone by quickly, and many have been asking, with the season now over, whether he would stay on? It has been a successful year in charge with Videoton ending in second place after 34 years. Happily a decision has been reached quickly.

"I have been in discussions with the management of the club since the end of the season. I wanted to know exactly the plans that they have for both the short and long term." said Mezey. "At the same time I needed them to know how I was thinking.  I wanted to tell them my opinions and the conditions with regard to how we could put together a side that could compete on the international stage. Now that these conditions have been created, we can all see that these plans are realistic. My coaching staff will continue to work on as they have, with pre-season training starting on the 14th June. As to what are the plans? To continue our upward trend, and to "cement our place" among the stronger sides on the international stage."

Videoton's managing director, Sandor Berzi, was delighted that Gyorgy Mezey will continue to manage the team. The building process which has started can now carry on, which will result in the team developing more so that they can reach their targets.
