A change of management signalled the start of the new season. Peter Varhidi occupied the manager's bench with his assistant Attila Heredi. Laszlo Tokes became the goalkeeping coach. The local council again reached into its pockets to help the club out financially. They also revealed that they would be willing to sell 50% of the club to the right investor.
Changes again to the playing squad
Dejan Vilotics signed a two year deal with the club. Gabor Foldes, Arpad Milinte and Sandor Csato all signed an extra year. Two Serbian defenders also arrived with Ivan Ristic from Szartd Szmederev coming in together with Alexkszandar Sztanojevic from OFK Belgrade. Forward Ferenc Roth came in from ZTE, while striker Istvan Varga returned to the club. Attila Korsos arrived from SV Salzburg during the autumn season. Midfielder Norbert Toth also moved from Vasas.
There were players whose contracts expired at the end of the previous season like midfielder Laszlo Komodi and Balazs Beko, as well as defender Balazs Kiskapusi who did not have to report back. Striker Leo came in from Brazil while midfielder Tamas Filo moved to DVTK. Finally Istvan Sipeki moved to Siofok on loan.
Points against MTK
The season opener did not start too well. MTK had already taken a comfortable lead in the first half, which they further strengthened in the second 45 minutes. Visiting keeper Attila Hajdu kept out the home sides attacks to secure a 3-1 win for the Budapest team. There was a 1-1 draw with Siofok and a 0-0 match with Kispest Honved. Another draw followed against Debrecen before a 2-1 home defeat to Ujpest. Week 6 of the season resulted in the first win and 3 points. That took place at the home of Bekescsaba with goals from Gajic and Hamar securing a 2-0 win. The win was never in doubt as the team carried out what they had planned to on the pitch. This success could not lift the team out of the slump that they were in as the poor performance continued. The picture was bleak and the 17 league games over the autumn saw just 3 wins.
Crowd trouble in the game with Győr meant that the following game with ZTE was played behind closed doors. Vidi were made to fight for their 2-1 win in that game. That was not the only game played behind closed doors that season. The Hungarian FA also decided that the match with Ferencvaros at the Sostoi stadium in week 11 would also be played in front of empty stands. No supporters proved to be costly as the team went down 3-0 to the green and whites.
Norbert Toth's contract came to an end in November and Attila Korsos temporary playing licence also ran out. Toth had his contract extended but the same was not so for Korsos. The striker did not play in the next match against Kispest. The financial problems surrounding the club continued to boil beneath the water but the team still won 2-0 in the game against the Budapest side. The autumn season finished badly. Bottom of the league Bekescsaba were leading 3-0 after 49 minutes. A goal from Roth was a consolation but the visitors 3-1 win was totally deserved.
Change of manager – Changes to the playing squad
The club announced at the end of December that the poorer than expected autumn displays would result in the club and Peter Varhidi going their separate ways. Former national team manager Bertalan Bicskei, who had been working in China, returned home and took over. He was helped by goal keeping coach Jozsef Gaspar and Jozsef Dzurjak. Istvan Weimper was another to be part of the new coaching team.
The squad was increased by several new players who signed for the football club. Former Ferencvaros midfielder Tibor Szabo came in together with Slovakian Frantisek Kunzo. Bulgarian forward Ljubomir Palejkov was another new arrival. Defender Ferenc Koczian made the short move from Dunaujvaros. Another player to link up with Videoton was Romanian defender Gabriel Vochin. Youth players Gabor Horvath and midfielder Daniel Kontos made the step up to the first team set up.
Departures included forward Istvan Hamar who signed for Kispest Honved. Predrag Gajics was another to head out of the door during that winter. Forward Sorato Aguinaldo and midfielder Daniel Lins did not return back to Fehervar. Striker Istvan Varga signed for Felcsut SE.
Good start to the spring
The first match of spring was against a Győr team that also had a new manager in place. Vidi came out 4-0 winners! Things got better as they won the next three games in a row. Goals from Pomper, Dveri and Szalai secured a 3-2 win away in Sopron. Another 3 points were collected away at ZTE thanks to goals from Pomper, Dveri and Toth, which helped to secure a 3-0 victory. The third win in a row was away at Dunaferr and a 3-0 win.
That run of wins meant that Vidi went into the game at FTC with hope and in search of another success. However, they would lose that match 1-0 in Budapest. Vidi ended the season in 8th place and a place in the bottom league of the first division. The first match was against ZTE and a 2-0 win. This came on the back of manager Bicskei announcing to the media that he would not be continuing as manager. The good spring performance had started with a 1-0 defeat at Honved, but another run of 3 wins moved the side up the table. There was a 3-0 win over Bekescsaba and a 4-0 win over Dunaferr. Sopron were also beaten 2-0.
The good run of that spring was interrupted by a 3-2 defeat to ZTE. Vidi also lost to Kispest 2-1, who were battling relegation. The final match of the season was against MATAV Sopron and the supporters were expecting a win. However, there were 10 players missing and a younger than normal side went down 2-1. There were debuts for defender Gabor Horvath, Jozsef Magasfoldi and Daniel Kontos among others.
The team finished in second place in the bottom league of the first division. That meant 8th place overall with 40 points and 11 wins, 7 draws and 14 defeats.
No luck in the Hungarian cup
Szabadkikoto were beaten 12-0 for a place in the last 32. Szekszard were next up and a Sorato double gave Vidi a 2-1 win for a place in the last 16. BKV sprang a surprise and Vidi went out of the cup after a 2-1 loss.
