The management of the club gave their backing to manager Peter Varhidi. Janos Karasz, who had earlier been the Siofok Managing Director took over as Technical Director. The first division had new sponsors and became the Borsodi League. The system also changed: There would be 33 games and then two leagues consisting of six sides, which would mean an upper and lower house. Teams in the upper league would contest the domestic league title, while those in the lower house would fight to avoid relegation.

Plenty of arrivals and departures

The long planned 38 games for the season ahead meant that a large squad was required for the amount of matches to play. Balazs Beko returned home from Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem. Defender Zoltan Szlezak arrived from Ujpest, as did Balazs Kovacs and forward Lajos Terjek. Further forwards came in with Istvan Hamar arriving from another Israeli team, Maccabi Netanya. Laszlo Komodi moved to Fehervar from Vasas, while Yugoslavian player Predrag Gajic was another new arrival. Krisztian Timar joined from BKV Elore. Midfielder Norbert Nemedi came in from Szolnok while keeper Zoltan Vegy joined in a loan deal from MTK. Midfielder Tibor Pomper switched from Dunaferr SE. Jozsef Magasfoldi moved up from the youth team.

Players leaving included keeper Bela Biro and Balazs Homphot. Zalan Zombori joined Ferencvaros, while Csaba Szalai headed to Bodajk. Attila Korsos went to Wustenrot Salzburg in Austria and Rob Kornel also moved to the green and whites in Budapest.

The season starts with a win

The autumn season kicked off with a game against Sopron. The season before had seen Sopron just about escape relegation after beating Vidi. However, a Laszlo Komodi strike gave Vidi a 1-0 win. There was a further 1-0 win over Debrecen and Haladas. Defeat came against Dunaferr and a 2-0 loss. The biggest defeat of the autumn came in the 4-0 beating at Ferencvaros. A real prestigious match followed at the home of Ujpest. Several of the players had played for both teams over the years. A Tibor Pomper missed penalty signalled a 2-0 result in favour of the Lilacs.

The end of October included a home game with Debrecen. The home side did very well and took a 3 goal lead. That win saw them jump up to third place in the league table. The next 5 games would see only Ferencvaros take a point away from the Sostoi stadium.

Plenty of snow fell on the pitch at the Sostoi on the 5th December. The 10cm snow did not cause problems and the match with Ujpest proceeded. Two goals each from Hamar and Komodi helped Videoton to a 4-1 win. Vidi went into the winter break sitting in fourth place in the table.

New owners arrive - Stadium demolition

The local council continued to own the club. However, the winter break saw 5 companies buy a share in the club. There was plenty of movement in the winter months with regards to players. Midfielder Onyeabor Monye returned to the club from Romanian side UTA Arad. The club also signed Tamas Filo from Eger FC. Zsolt Dveri arrived from Ujpest. Attila Kovacs joined Tatabanya, Daniel Usvat moved to Siofok and defender Zoltan Szlezak returned to Ujpest.

The spring season opened with a game with Sopron. That game saw the players prepare for that match for the last time in the dressing rooms of the old main stand before demolition. The new impressive main stand was planned to be ready for 2006. The players did not manage to win that game and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. The first win of the second half of the season came in week 5. There had been draws with Debrecen 0-0, Haladas 2-2 and a 3-1 defeat to Dunaferr and 4-1 against Ferencvaros.

The win finally came in a battling display with Vasas. A Dveri double and goals from Toth and Gajics gave maximum points. The team then suffered indifferent form in the weeks that followed. The final game of the league campaign saw a better performance against Ujpest. That meant a fourth place finish for the club. The play off's for the upper house saw the club grouped with ZTE, MTK, Ferencvaros, Dunaferr and Ujpest.

The games started well and there was a win over bogey side Dunaferr. Goals from Dveri and Hamar gave Vidi a 2-1 win. There were two defeats against MTK and Ferencvaros respectfully. Things would be decided in the match with Ujpest. A fifth place finish was up for grabs and the team already decided the outcome in the first half. Two goals from Timar, and further goals from Foldes and Terjek as well as an own goal from Low secured a 5-0 win. Vidi managed a 2-1 win over ZTE in the final game. That meant a 5th place finish.

Battle for the Hungarian cup

A 4-0 win over Vac was a convincing one and put Vidi in the final 16 of the cup. There opponents would be Szolnok and goals from Gajics, Komodi and Terkek gave Vidi a 3-0 win. There was an extra time 2-1 win over Debrecen in the next round. However, they exited the cup after losing 2-0 to Dunaferr.

Emberek jönnek, mennek... 2001. December 24.
Lülü lett a legjobb 2001. December 13.
Terjék Lajos lett a szezon legjobb játékosa.Az esélyesek közé tartozott még Végh Zoltán, Komódi László, Pomper Tibor is. Végül Terjékre voksoltak a legtöbben így ő vehette át a Baráti Kör ajándékát: egy Videoton-emblémás ezüstláncot, illetve egy 2 személyes hétvégi hévízi utazást.Gratulálunk!
