We sat down to talk with the Director of Football about the pre-season and the spring season ahead.

You spent a few days out in Spain for both training camps and you could see the preparations from close-up. What have you experienced over recent weeks?
It would be important to separate the two training camps. The first one was all about working hard physically, which the players did before and in between matches. Naturally this could be seen in the performances and also the results, but this is normal. There were two main targets for the two weeks spent in Benidorm: The physical work and for the players to get to know each other even better. The second camp saw the players more fresh, even though we were still not playing at the tempo of league football. You could clearly see that the team turned into the final furlong of preparation and that Marbella was more effective and you could see the form that was shown. It was important for the players to get 90 minutes football and that they all played. They were in a better condition and played football at a different tempo. The only exception was the game with Dinamo Kiev, which I would not like to talk about as the head coach spoke about this after the game. All I would say is that like with every game, you can learn something.
Four new players have joined the club recently. What have your impressions been regarding them?
We are satisfied with them both personally and professionally. They each represent strengthening and have all adjusted well into the team. We had three of those players out with us for the first training camp. They prepared with the other players. You could see in the second training camp what we can expect from them. We still have to wait for Szabolcs Huszti, but it is vital that both the player and the club remain patient. His presence could be clearly seen and felt. He has a good effect on the other players, both experienced and the young ones. His recovery is going well and I hope that we will soon see him out there on the pitch.
Istvan Kovacs and Paulo Vinicius spent a period out injured over the autumn. They have returned and the manager is counting on them as could be seen in recent games.
Well you could say that the squad has increased by 6 players for the spring season, which is positive. I am pleased that they have returned as both are important members of the team and we are counting on them!
Krisztian Géresi had to return home during the first training camp and did not go out for the second.
Krisztián unfortunately has missed the winter pre-season due to an injury. It is the same injury that disturbed him towards the end of the autumn season. We hope that we can find out the cause of the problem as he completes his rehabilitation. If we can do this, then he can help us a lot in the spring.
There were players that also left the club during the break. Perhaps the most interesting are the players that were placed out of the squad. However, players like Roland Szolnoki and Asmir Suljic have remained. What can we know about them?
There was a serious possibility during the winter that Roland Szolnoki would leave but is was very unfortunate that it did not happen. The coaching staff considered him to be leaving, which is why he did not link up with the squad for the training camp. We still have some transfer windows open and it is not yet certain that we can find a solution, which is suitable for both club and player. It could still happen that he will return to the first team squad if he remains. The situation with Asmir Suljic is different. We held negotiations with him throughout the autumn, but finally decided in November that we do not wish to offer him a new deal. Everyone knows that he has signed a deal with Wisla Krakov from the summer. This makes it an interesting situation as he is still contracted to Videoton. He will leave in the summer and he will not be a member of the NB1 squad. I feel that if the Polish side would like to speed things up and take him earlier, then they will need to make those steps. We did receive offers for Asmir but we did not consider them to be serious. It is important to add that when Videoton wishes to sign players, then all clubs give the respect, which should be given in reverse. We did not get this with regards to the Suljic situation. I would note that this is not the usual thing, which has been confirmed over recent years.
Another interesting move was Ezekiel Henty who moved to the Puskas Academy in a loan move.
We signed a long term contract with Henty last summer. There is no doubt as to his qualities as a player, which everyone can clearly see. If he can play regularly over the spring for Puskas Academy, then it could be profitable for both sides over the coming months.
Several youngsters went to the training camp with the first team. How would you sum up their performances?
I feel that they showed that it was worth picking them out and that we can count on them for the future. We were satisfied with them. The example of these players is a good message to the youth players and also coaches. If a player works well, then he will get the chance with a side like Vidi. Everything depends on a player and the attitude he shows. I would pick out Balint Szabo who celebrated his 17th birthday in January. He prepared with the first team squad and also played in games. The most important aspect is that he performed really well. We will give him everything to make sure he develops for Vidi.
There were changes to the coaching team as well during January. Tamas Szalai moved up to help Marko Nikolic over recent weeks. Will he remain with the coaching team?
Yes, Tamas Szalai will be a member of the Vidi coaching team for the spring ahead. If I have already spoken about the example for youth coaches, then I would like to do the same here. Tomi came through the ranks at Vidi. He became a first division player and spent a large part of his playing career in Fehervar. He then moved to start working with the youth team. Now he is a coach for the first team. This is what I consider to be a chance. I am pleased that we have young and talented Hungarian coaches that are part of us.
The team are in second place at the moment and 3 points behind leaders Ferencvaros. What do you expect from the squad over the spring?
It is a realistic target that Vidi should be champions. It will be a big battle, which is clear, but we are ready. Everything is in place for us to be celebrating at the end of the season.

Kapusunk szerint az MTK elleni meccsen a tét sokkal több, mint a győzelemért járó három bajnoki pont.
