We do not have to go to long back in to the past to rediscover a memorable season opening match for Videoton. That happened at the start of 2017 and the opening spring league season game at home to Ujpest at the Pancho Arena.

Henning Berg's side fell behind to a goal from Perovics, but Hadzic levelled in the first half. Then the goals came: Scepovic hit two and there were further goals from Suljic and Stopira to make the final score 5-1. Lazovic set up two goals and Mirko Maric made his debut by assisting a goal with his first touch.

1978 - A 5-0 home win over Csepel

NB I 1977-78 - match 19
Székesfehérvár, Sóstói Stadium, Att: 5000
Wednesday 15th February 1978.
Videoton SC - Csepel SC 5-0 (3-0)
Goalscorers: Hódi (öngól, 5.), Godán (öngól, 7.), Burcsa (17.), Májer (66.), Szalmásy (78.)

Videoton: Kovács L. - Nagy III, Kovács J., Végh, Baranyi - Nagy II, Karsai (Szalmásy, 53.), Csongrádi - Májer, Burcsa, Tiber L.
Manager: Lantos Mihály

Csepel: Hajdú - Godán, Kőhalmi, Mészöly P., Kovács Gy., Kiss T., Hódi, Tóth B. - Ozsváth, Branikovits (Somogyi, 74.), Vincze (Vad, 67.)
Manager: Kóczián Antal

Despite Csepel not enjoying the best time in their history when the sides met, they did show year after year in games with Vidi that the team from the capital had produced 14 draws and 16 wins for the opponents in games leading up to this one, which included 14 Vidi wins.

The 14th of those wins came back in 1978 when Vidi quickly raced into an early 2 goal lead. Both of those goals did not come off the boots of Videoton players. Hodi and Godan scored own goals to set the scene at the Sostoi. There was no stopping the home side from there on. Burcsa scored the third after 17 minutes and there were two further goals for Lantos Mihaly's team to make it 5-0.
