Videoton won the Super cup last season away at Kecskemet, and go into Wednesday's final as holders | ||
The first Super cup final for Videoton FC was back in 2006, when then champions Debrecen were the opponents. The final back then was over two legs, with Vidi losing 1-0 at home, before going down 2-1 in Debrecen. .
Vidi had to wait another four years until they next appeared in a final. With Debrecen having won the league and cup double in 2010, they faced Vidi, who had finished runners up in the league at home, winning by a single goal. Vidi were back in the final a year later, having won the Hungarian league title with cup winners Kecskemet the opponents. An Andre Alves goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win, resulting in the first Super cup success for Videoton FC.
Vidi will now play in the Super Cup for the third time in a row against Debrecen, who once again managed to win the league and cup double. If Videoton can win on Wednesday, with kick off at 20:15pm, then they will have been the third most successful side, level with MTK and Ujpest, in the competition.
