Videoton progressed to the semi-finals of the League cup with a second leg victory over Diosgyőr. Paulo Sousa's side were already leading 2-0 from the first leg, which was played 2 weeks ago in Miskolc, and they produced another solid 2-0 win at the Sostoi stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Vidi made several changes to their starting line up, having picked up a comfortable away leg lead. There were starting roles for Hector and Silva, while Caneira returned to the heart of the defence, having missed Saturday's home win over Kaposvar. Youngsters Gyurcso and Kovacs also featured from the start, as did forward Evandro.

League cup games do not usually produce good crowds in Hungary, but 2000 turned out to see Vidi continue their unbeaten run, which now stretches back to 12 games. The first half hour saw the ball mainly in the middle of the pitch, with Vidi having more of the possession. The first real chance arrived on 25 minutes, with Gyurcso's quickly taken free kick finding Evandro, who shot at goal, before the danger was cleared by the visiting defender.

Gyurcso broke in on the right, three minutes later, shooting powerfully low with his left foot, but the ball went wide of the post. Vidi took the lead shortly after. Gyurcso hit a high ball into the box, following a free kick, and Evandro showed good anticipation to be in the right place at the right time to head home from close range. Vidi could have increased their lead right on half time, with Apostolopoulos seeing his shot saved by keeper Farkas, while Gyurcso's cross a minute later, was headed just wide by Silva.

There were several changes at the break with young Szolnoki taking over the captains armband from Sandor, who came off at the break. Diosgyőr brought on Vadasz, but he was soon walking back to the dressing room, having fouled Vidi forward Peric. The referee pointed to the spot, and Mitrovics kept his composure to make it 2-0 on the day and 4-0 on aggregate.

Vidi then had the chance to extend their lead shortly after. Young Kovacs fed Silva with a great ball, who headed towards Farkas' goal, but the keeper was able to keep the effort out. Vidi were awarded another penalty after 59 minutes, after Frizoni fouled Kovacs. Perics took the penalty but Farkas sensed which way it would go and kept it out. Videoton saw out the game playing confident football, with further chances being created. The two sides clash once more at the weekend, when Vidi make the journey east in the OTP league. Recent signing Uros Nikolics also made his senior debut, coming on around the hour mark.

Videoton have been drawn with Papa in the semi-finals of the league cup. The tie will be played over two legs.
