New coaching team takes over and Vidi lift the league cup for the third time.

The 2011-2012 season kicked off with well known Paulo Sousa in charge. He promised hard work and development ahead. He brought with him assistant Joan Carrillo and Igncio Torreno as fitness coach. Balazs Beko remained as coach together with keeper coach Peter Disztl. Andre Alves picked up an award for being the previous season top goalscorer.
Vidi strengthen in each position
The summer transfer window saw strengthening in several areas. Midfielder Balazs Toth returned to the club. Defender Hector Sanchez arrived from Villarreal, while Vidi signed a 2 year deal with Alvaro Brachi, who came from Anorthosis Famagusta FC. Young 18 year old keeper Filip Pajovic was next in while 25 times capped Portuguese defender Marco Caneira was a major signing in the summer. Nikola Mitrovics arrived from Ujpest and Walter Fernandez was another to come in during the summer months from the Spanish second division. Striker Evandro Brandao strengthened the forward line, while defender Paulo Vinicius made the move from Uruguay club CA River Plate. Filip Oliveira completed a busy period when he moved on loan from Italians Parma.
Departures included keeper Zsolt Sebok, with the club not extending his contract. Bojan Djordjic also left together with defender Zoltan Liptak. The two had their contracts mutually terminated. Midfielder Balazs Farkas, who had captain the side the season before also moved on. Defender Pal Lazar moved to Turkish club Samsunspor while Sandor Hidvegi continued his career with ZTE. Laszlo Lencse and Adam Gyurcso headed out on loan deals to Kecskemet. Defender Gabor Horvath completed his move to Dutch side ADO Den Haag.
Super Cup win, but the team quickly exit the Champions League
Pre-season started with a camp in Italy close to Trento. That included the usual friendly matches as the team prepared for the season ahead. The first competitive match of the season was the super cup final, which Vidi won by a single goal at Kecskemet.
Videoton entered the Champions League having won last season's league title. They lost 2-0 in the first leg away at Sturm Graz, before beating them 3-2 in an exciting return leg in Hungary. However, they exited the cup 4-3 on aggregate.
There was an indifferent start to the new league season. A 4-0 win over Paks was followed by a 2-0 loss away at Kaposvar. Vidi beat Diosgyőr 2-0 but again suffered a defeat against Debrecen by a 2-1 scoreline. A 0-0 draw at the home of Siofok was next up. Unbeaten Pecs arrived at the Sostoi and were defeated 4-1, before yet another defeat away at Honved 1-0.
A battling performance against Haladas resulted in 3 points being picked up in the final minute thanks to Tamas Vasko. That saw Videoton sit in second place in the league table. Debrecen remained top with a 3 points lead. The points were shared away at Vasas where neither side managed to score. ZTE were beaten 4-1 in a confident display, which was followed up by a good 1-0 win against Ferencvaros. Two wins and two defeats were next up as the autumn season closed in.
A good run of results towards the end of the autumn included a 3-2 win over Papa and a 3-0 win over Ujpest. There were 7 goals scored against Siofok, which saw goals from Alves (3), Nikolics (2) among the scorers. The final game was a 2-1 win over Paks.
The 17 league games produced 32 points, including 10 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats. That was enough to secure 3rd place going into the spring season. Paulo Sousa confirmed that the team were where he had expected them to be a half year earlier.
Progress in the Hungarian cup and League cup
Videoton were drawn in group c in the League cup, which included MTK, Gyirmot and Honved. Group games resulted in 3 wins, 2 draws and a single defeat to secure first place. Vidi went past MTK 4-0 in the knock out stages to progress. The 5th round of the Hungarian cup produced a 1-0 win over Haladas. The 0-0 second leg score meant a place in the next round for Sousa's side.
Changes to the team and coaching staff
December saw Balazs Beko leave the club having been coach.
The winter transfer window included further arrivals including 42 times capped Hungarian forward Sandor Torghelle moving to Fehervar. Brazilian defender Jeff Silva and forward Uros Nikolics were further additions. Talented youngster Istvan Kovacs made the move from Haladas as did Kaposvar forward Milan Perics. Zsolt Haraszti came in from Paks, but went out on loan to Siofok shortly after.
Midfielder Akos Elek joined Turkish side Eskişehirspor in a loan move. Daniel Nagy went to Haladas, while Vasziljevic moved to Ujpest. Forward Andre Alves signed for Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.
Training camps in Spain and Turkey
January began with the usual medical check up. A training camp in Marbella followed, which included a 28 man squad. Several friendly games were played, as Paulo Sousa prepared his players. He commented that it had been "a useful 3 weeks of training."
The squad then flew out to Turkey for the second training camp and a match against Dinamo Bucharest as one of the friendly matches.
One defeat over the spring season
Pre-season went well as the team kicked off the second half of the season. Kaposvar were beaten 2-0, which was repeated by a similar scoreline against Diosgyőr. The only defeat was against Debrecen (1-0) at the Sostoi stadium. No other side managed to repeat that for the remainder of the season. There were wins over Pecs 3-1, a 92nd minute Torghelle winner against Honved. A good 4-1 win against Vasas and a 2-0 over ZTE. There were 8,742 present to witness the 2-0 win over Ferencvaros. Kecskemet were also beaten 2-0. A great battle with Győri ETO resulted in a 2-1 win as the final game of the season approached. Papa were beaten 2-0 in the last league game at the Sostoi, before the season was wrapped up with a 2-0 success away at Ujpest.
The league season ended with a second place finish and 21 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats.
League cup success for the third time!
The quarter-finals saw Vidi paired with DVTK and a 2-0 home leg win was followed up with the same result away from home. That set up a semi-final tie with Papa. The first leg in Papa produced a 3-0 win. That was topped off with a 1-0 home leg win to secure a place in the final. The league cup final was against Kecskemet at their stadium.
