Videoton FC fielded a relatively strong side in the League cup on Wednesday evening. The weather has recently began to cool after a long summer, which did not help the attendance, which remained low. Vidi beat Honved in the home fixture a week earlier, thanks to a last minute Nemanja Nikolics strike, and they needed another injury time effort to rescue a point at Honved. The first major talking point in the game arrived after 22 minutes, when Tujvel was adjudged to have made contact with Delczeg, and the referee pointed to the spot. The visiting keeper saw red and Vidi were reduced to ten men, with Pajovics replacing him in between the sticks. 

Ivancsics took the penalty and hit a powerful shot that came back off the bar and away to safety. The young Serbian keeper, who was signed in the summer, then did well to collect a dangerous looking cross a minute later in the 26th minute. Honved began to gain the upperhand with their man advantage, with Tschami testing Pajovics. Nikolics saw his effort from a tight angle saved by Santa in the home goal, just before half time. Olivera replaced Brachi at the break as Vidi emerged for the second period still very much in the game. The sub almost set up Nikolics following a powerful cross. Nikolics then hit the post on 55 minutes from about 20 meters out. Paulo Sousa made a double substitution bringing on Walter Lee in place of Daniel Nagy on 63 minutes, while Caneira replaced Vasko in the heart of defence. 

Honved took the lead in the 82nd minute when Hajdu's free kick was parried by Pajovics and the rebound fell to Abbas who scored from close range. However, Vidi showed plenty of spirit in the closing minutes, rescuing the match following a build up, which included Alves and Oliveira setting up Walter who shot nicely into the corner of the net in time added on. Videoton now turn their focus back on to the OTP league with a testing home match on Saturday against KTE.
