Videoton will enter the League cup after the group stage, with either MTK, Vasas or Paks being the opponents
June 2nd is an important date in the Hungarian footballing year. The 2010-2011 fixtures will be released on that day, when the draw is made at the Hungarian HQ. Vidi finished runners-up last season when they pushed champions Debrecen all the way. Gyorgy Mezey's side will be looking to go one better this time round.
The timetable for the League cup will also be made that morning. The domestic league is due to kick off on July 31st this season. The plan is to have an autumn season of 17 games for each team. The season will close on the 5th December, and if the weather permits, than the spring season will begin on the 26th February 2011. Siofok and Szolnok were the two sides that were promoted last season from the second division. Last season also saw relegation for the two eastern teams, Diosgyor and Nyiregyhaza, who will now compete in the second level.
The Hungarian FA have also prepared the groups for the League cup this year. The League cup starts on July 24th this year with only first division sides competing this time. Each group has three sides in them and it will be based on a home-away basis. The four Hungarian sides that will be competing in Europe this summer will enter the cup after the group stages.
The group draw for the league cup is as follows:
Group A: Honvéd, Kecskemét, Szolnok
Group B: MTK, Paks, Vasas
Group C: Ferencváros, Haladás, Pápa
Group D: Siófok, Kaposvár, Újpest
Videoton will play the winners from Group B.
