Ferenc Kovacs remained at the helm for the fourth season at the club. You could sense from the performances of the season before that a higher place finish was just a question of time. There was not too major change to the playing squad during the break. Striker Ferenc Nyitrai left the club together with midfielder Istvan Vass. Imre Burka also left for pastures new. Defender Sandor Baranyi joined during the winter. Forward Karoly Bruder was the final piece of the jigsaw as he arrived in the spring of 1976.

Hopes of a top 3 finish

There was an international tournament that the side participated in during the summer. Frankfurt Amoder were beaten 3-1, before losing the return leg 3-1. Dinamo Berlin were twice beaten 4-2 at home and 3-2 in Germany.

The new season again started with defeat on the opening day. However, 6 wins and 2 draws followed to give real hope of a successful season for the team and supporters. Autumn produced 21 points to close in third position in the league table. That included 9 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats.

A very good spring with several wins in the NBI 

The spring went even better than in Autumn. Tatabanya were the only side able to beat Videoton in the second half of the season. They did this with a 2-0 win as Vidi impressed in the majority of games. 

There was a draw with Ferencvaros (1-1). That point was enough to give the green and whites a league title win in season 1975-76. Videoton FC had to make do with a runners-up place. The defence remained tight with over half the 30 league games that season seeing clean sheets. 

It was also a success for manager Ferenc Kovacs, although he felt some disappointment that his team did not go one better and actually win the league. A total of 44 points were collected with 18 wins, 8 draws and just 4 defeats. The disappointment of coming so close to winning the league put its stamp on the following season. 

The Hungarian MNK cup was played over a home and away basis. Szekszard were beaten 3-1 on aggregate. Dozsa were next up but the team went out on the away goal rule after the home match ended 2-2 and the return game in Budapest did not produce any goals.
