The second biggest European victory in the history of our club

On Thursday night, Vidi won 5-0 against their Moldovan opponents in their 144th European match.

A historic success on Thursday evening

Thanks to their five-goal success, our team moved one step closer to the play-offs of the ECL, where they will face Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln to qualify for the group stage.

Thursday night was Vidi's 144th international match and only twice have we won by a greater margin than we did against FC Petrocub Hîncești - both times by six goals. We have also won by five goals only twice before, so it is safe to say that the 3,365 fans who attended the MOL Arena Sóstó on Thursday evening were treated to a historic success.

Vidi's first international match and first international success

We played our first international match in Sarajevo on 3 October 1973, losing 3-1 to FK Sarajevo in the CWC. Our first goal on the international stage was scored by Tibor Wollek. We didn't have to wait long for our first international victory, as 21 days later, on 24 October 1973, we won 3-0 in Székesfehérvár against TJ ZVL Žilina.

Two six-goal victories is our team's record on the international stage, we have only won by 5 goals twice before

Our first five-goal success on the international stage came on 7 May 1978, when we defeated R.A.A. Louviéroise 6-1 in the Intertoto Cup at the Sóstói Stadium. We have only won by a greater margin in international cup matches twice before - both times in the Intertoto Cup. First on 30 July 1983, when we beat MKS Cracovia 6-0 at home, thanks in part to four goals from József Szabó, and then almost 10 years later, almost to the day, on 18 July 1993, when we beat FK DAC 7-1 at the Sóstói Stadion. Incredibly, there was one player who played an active part in both of our six-goal victories, Imre Vadász, who started for Vidi against MKS Cracovia and FK DAC.

Apart from the aforementioned 6-1 win against R.A.A. Louviéroise, we had won an international cup match by five goals on one other occasion, which is also one of our most famous victories: we beat FK Partizan Belgrade 5-0 - József Szabó scored four goals - in our 1984/85 UEFA Cup campaign at the Sóstó Stadium. Just as a special note of interest, Imre Vadász was also in Vidi's starting line-up for this match.
