The 2019-2020 season so far: August

The break in the current league season as a result of the coronavirus gives us the chance to look back at the season so far.

A busy summer pre-season was followed up by the start of the new 2019-2020 campaign. Newly promoted Kaposvar were the visitors to the MOL Arena Sosto at the beginning of August. Kaposvar had jumped from the NB III to the top division in a couple of years. It proved to be an exciting opening match with six goals for the supporters to enjoy. Two goals each from forwards Armin Hodzic and Marko Futacs earned Vidi all three points in the 4-2 win. Ivan Petryak made his league debut for the red and blues following his summer move.

Next up for Vidi was a tough away game in Felcsut at the home of Puskas Academy. The county league derby came early on in the new season and MOL Fehervar FC did not disappoint. Goals from Huszti and Futacs did the damage with another 3 points on the board to make it two out of two. The two goals came in the second half with keeper Adam Kovacsik putting the win down to good teamwork after the final whistle.

The six points gave Vidi a good springboard to build on their good start to the new league season. DVTK were the visitors to the MOL Arena Sosto in the middle of August. The score was 1-1 at half-time but Vidi put in a great second half performance with four goals to comfortably beat the Miskolc side 5-1. Akos Elek scored the first of the goals against his former club. Futacs, captain Juhasz and two further goals from Armin Hodzic made it nine from nine and a 100% start. There were just under 4,000 inside the stadium to see another good match.

There would be two further league wins to end the month of August with 15 points and first place. A visit to Paks was next and a goal in each half produced three more points. Futacs broke the deadlock after 24 minutes. The lead was extended in the second period when Petryak pounced to make it two. Paks is never an easy place to get a result so that just further confirmed the team being in good form. That confidence was taken into the next game with Kisvarda the visitors. Again the red and blues proved too good for their opponents. The breakthrough arrived after 41 minutes when a free kick from Huszti was met by the unmarked Musliu from close range to make it 1-0. It was the defenders first goal since signing for Vidi in what was his debut game. It was the perfect start to the North Macedonian's start at the club. That goal would be added to in the second half with Milanov and Hodzic also finding the net. The month of August ended with maximum points.
