Vidi's Mate Patkai scores the winning goal for Hungary against World Cup finalists Croatia

The MOL Vidi midfielder struck in the second half to score the winning goal in the qualifying match at the Groupama Arena in Budapest.

Hungary played their second qualifying game on Sunday evening. They had lost 2-0 away in Slovakia last week. Manager Marco Rossi made changes to his starting line-up against Croatia at the Groupama Arena in Budapest. MOL Vidi midfielder Mate Patkai played the entire match at the heart of the Hungarian midfield. Croatia went ahead early on but Hungary levelled through striker Szalai. The two teams went in at the break with the score at 1-1.

Hungary showed plenty of heart and it was Patkai who scored the winning goal following a corner kick. Dzsudzsak took the corner and Patkai rose the highest at the back post, before sticking his foot out to send the ball into the back of the Croatian net. The win puts Hungary level in third place with Slovakia and Wales. The win also meant that Modric and his team went home empty handed, which also represents a great result for Hungary against the World Cup finalists.
