Boban Nikolov: There is no doubt that I want to win the league with Vidi

Vidi's new signing would like to repeat what he achieved with Vardar and help Videoton to the title.

Boban Nikolov arrived at the training camp in Spain on Friday. He signed for Vidi from Macedonian side Vardar Skopje. Boban spoke to us between the two training sessions on Sunday.

„My father was a footballer and always backed me as a kid to become a professional footballer. I started playing at the age of 9 for a local side. I was 16 when I was watched by the Hagi Academy. I got the chance to link up with them. Naturally I asked the opinion of my father, who gave me support, which is why I agreed to move there and accept their offer. It was difficult at first as there were no other foreign players there. The players were all Romanian, but I eventually settled in. The Academy's senior side was called Viitorul, and I made my my debut for them in 2013. I actually scored a goal on my debut against Steaua, and continued with them for a further two seasons. Then Vardar called me and I wanted to play for a club that could win the title. I spent really good years there and won two league titles with them. I also played in the Europa League group stage, so I am grateful to them. Not only because of the results but also because the owner understood that I wanted to make a change and continue my career with Videoton. I know that the league season continues on the 24th February. I hope that we have a good start and that we can celebrate winning the league title in the summer."

The Macedonian international midfielder achieved good success with Vardar. He got used to it and would like to do the same in a red and blue shirt.

"Naturally I want to win the league. I remember when I signed for Vardar and made my debut. They also spoke about winning the league title. It is not an issue that I would like to win the title. I said it then and I am saying it again now. I managed to win two league championships at Vardar, and we also made it to the group stage. I have the same targets at this club too."

The 23 year old has picked up serious international experience despite his age. He not only played for his country at senior level but also in the Europa League group stage.

„It is totally different playing on the international stage and they were very difficult games. I picked up very good experience. We beat Fenerbache over two legs, which was a fantastic feeling. We then played teams such as Rosenborg, Real Sociedad and Zenit in the group games. I now want to do the same in a Videoton shirt, but first we have to win the league."

Several Macedonian international players have played in the Hungarian NB I over recent years. Kire Risztevsky, Enisz Bardi, Viktor Angelov and Stefan Szpirovszky.

"I have spoken to those that have played here. Enisz Bardi is a good friend for example in the national team. We played together years ago for the youth team. We are not too far from each other now as he is in Valencia. Perhaps he can come over and visit (Bardi plays for Levante currently). I also have a good relationship with Szpirovszki and he was my team mate for two years at Vardar. They all say really good things about the country and the Hungarian league."
