We were hoping until the very end that the team would once again make it through to the group stage for the first time since 2012. However, Partizan Belgrade won the second leg at the Pancho Arena to progress. Director of Football Zoltan Kovacs tried to pick out the positives with regards to the summer period.

We went one more round in Europe compared to last summer. You could say objectively that we have improved, but it would have been great to get into the group stage. We were very close to that and it is understandable that everyone is disappointed. The supporters are disappointed and naturally the coaching staff, but we need to quickly get over it and clear our heads in the dressing room. The league season and Hungarian cup are ahead. I feel that the game against Bordeaux was a massive success for us even if there are some that try to degrade it. The fact is that Vidi knocked out a French first division side and we did it by playing well. Sadly this performance could not be repeated against Partizan. We had some big chances in Belgrade and there were some at the start of the second leg. We then conceded easy goals and individual errors cost us at Felcsut. Partizan were better than us at the Pancho Arena and they played very effective football. I still feel that we are the strong team, but we have to admit that we made mistakes and they deserved to go through."

You could read in several places with regards to the second leg with Partizan that the team were perhaps too offensive in the game. Zoltan Kovacs spoke about this and brought up an old joke.

"We did not have a hat on... I have also heard these comments that suggested we should have just defended against them. It was this football that brought its results against Bordeaux. If we would have just camped in our own half and defended our goal, you still would have received comments from some. I feel that compared to the football we played in the spring, we have more possession of the ball and play with more organisation, while we try to keep the match under control. The team togetherness has also moved forward. I would also pick out how much better it was to play in front of a full stadium. I would like to thank everyone who backed us and it was good to see the team and the fans find each other. Now we continue in the league and we are still level at the top with Honved. Our start to this season has gone better than it did last year at this stage and including the Europa League. That is another area where we have develeped since 2016."

The summer transfer window closes on the 31st August. The question is will there be changes to the Videoton squad?

"The summer window was mainly about talented Hungarian international players arriving as well as Ezekiel Henty, who is a decisive player to have linked up with us. We are not in any stress and we will not be signing just for the sake of it. I want to place emphasis on quality. The squad is already good enough to achieve our target. We can see where we need to add to quality. We will only make a step in the future if it can be seen that everything in terms of quality and the person himself would represent Vidi moving forward. We will not be reacting to this and that name in the future. If a player signs a contract with the club, or if one departs, it will first be communicated via the official website of the club."
