It has been a while since the club owner has shared his thoughts on the Vidi website. The upcoming Hungarian cup final between Videoton and Ferencvaros will be played at the home of the green and whites, which is sure to cause a bug storm. We spoke to Istvan Garancsi about the background to the decision taken.

- Do you not feel that the club has contributed to the final being played at the Groupama Arena, and that could represent an advantage for Ferencvaros?
The Hungarian FA 2014-15 competition announcement included a point that was not too clear regarding the venue for the Hungarian cup final. The resolution was that the Groupama Arena should be selected, with the condition that if Ferencvaros were to make it in to the cup final, then the question could be renegotiated. With the real chance of a Vidi-FTC final happening 2-3 weeks ago, I felt that sportsmanship rightly dictated that if the venue had already been selected, we should accept this, even if that means that we have given up the chance of playing the final at a neutral venue. This decision was agreed by the clubs participating in the semi-final. We naturally revisited the topic of there being suitable financial conditions, so a percentage of ticketing sales will be earned by Videoton FC. Now that the two clubs will meet in the final, I continue to feel that I have made a good decision. The Hungarian cup final has brought together the two current best sides in Hungarian football. This will further increase the prestige of the competition. The Groupama Arena is one of the most modern football stadiums in Europe today, so it will provide a worthy venue for such a game as this. We could not really find a better venue in Hungary at the moment. Recent months have shown that the stadium is working well, while the supporters have enjoyed watching football in very cultured surroundings. The supporters will also do well as a result of this decision. The financial participants, sponsors, player agents and most of all the whole NB1. I have said several times in the past that the most important aim is to increase the value of the NB1 together. One disadvantage from the point of view of Videoton is that Ferencvaros will be hosting us on their own pitch. We can now safely say that both teams have qualified to participate in European competition. This game will therefore provide a great chance for us to play in a big match, in a real footballing atmosphere, where we can really test ourselves. Let's go and play away and run out at a stadium where there are 20,000 supporters present, and let us show that we are the better side. I hope that even if it is a real big battle, we can beat Ferencvaros. Since I took over the running of the club 8 years ago, Vidi has achieved several successes. One trophy is missing from that collection, which is the Hungarian cup itself. Ferencvaros and the Hungarian FA will do everything possible to make sure that the game is played in front of a full house, with a perfect footballing atmosphere at the Ulloi ut stadium. This will benefit the entire Hungarian football if there are still big rivals. We could see for example just how good the atmosphere was at the most recent FTC-Ujpest derby match. Let's hope that the Hungarian cup final, which will see the two best sides in Hungary come face-to-face, will prove to be an even bigger event. This game will do a lot of good for us to play in a packed stadium before our own European competition participation, where we can measure ourselves in an away game.
