The left sided player has become manager José Gomes' first signing
Arturo Alvarez has become the first signing of new manager José Gomes, joining Videoton on a loan deal until the end of June 2013. There is a further option to sign the player once the current loan deal ends in the summer. Alvarez, who is a left footed player, was born on the 28th June 1985 in Houston, Texas. He has dual citizenship of both El Salvador and the USA. The player has also played in the USA youth sides, before making his senior international debut in the colours of El Salvador. He has gone on to collect 20 caps for his country, scoring a single goal in the process.
He made his debut at the age of 18 at his first professional club, in the American MLS league, for the San Jose Earthquakes. He then became an FC Dallas player from 2005-2008, before returning to San Jose from 2008-2010. Alvarez spent the 2011 season with Real Salt Lake, before moving to Portuguese side Paços de Ferreira last year.
"I made my debut at a relatively young age in the American first league, where I played for 8 years. I felt that the time had come to try myself out in Europe last year, which is why I moved to Portuguese club Paços de Ferreira. I am pleased to have joined a strong club like Videoton FC. I am clear with the fact of just what a good result they achieved in the autumn, and they were very close to making it through the Europa league group stages. I also know that Videoton are currently 12 points behind the leaders, but we will do everything we can over the spring, to close the gap with the top side. I like the one-on-one play, and they say that I can dribble well. If I have to describe myself briefly, then I would say that I am an attacking player, who does the upmost to win. I hope that I can help my new team out with my play, goals and by also setting up goals. I also heard from the others that there is usually a great atmosphere at the Sostoi stadium for games. I can hardly wait to make my debut in the colours of Videoton FC!" said new signing Arturo Álvarez to the club's website.

The Videoton squad will depart Budapest on Friday morning on route to southern Spain.
