José Gomes said in his introduction that he began working in football 22 years ago, and has gone on to pick up experience in all of the divisions in Portugal.

"I moved to Benfica as fitness coach and then coach, after spells at lower league clubs. It was at Benfica that I got the chance to become familiar with the everyday operation of a big club. That was the biggest turning point in my career so far, as Benfica were the first such club, where we had to win each game we played in. I then moved to Porto, where I learned a lot about my profession. I had the chance to look into several areas that I hadn't previously. I learned a lot from Jesualdo Ferreira, who I worked together with over recent years. I believe that I am completely prepared for my next task. I would say that joining Videoton as head coach is the biggest challenge of my career to date" - said Vidi's new manager.

Gomes also had some words for Paulo Sousa, the person he has replaced, but he did add that there are certain elements in the game of football, which he thinks differently about.

"Paulo Sousa performed a fantastic job, but not only with the team, but off the pitch as well, like the organization of the club for example. It will not be difficult to continue with the work he began, as he has left a perfect state behind, which we can bravely build upon. He has given helpful information, but I would like to follow this with my own thinking, so such things may arise that will see me do things differently than the person before me, but I feel that this is only natural. The team defends with lots of organization, but we need to develop our build up play for attacks, which we have already began to work on over recent days. I would say again that this is not a critisism of Paulo's work, as I can only be positive about what he has done for Videoton FC.

Overall we are talking about the Europa league success, which was built around organization, and great defending, but we will need to be more attack minded in search of points in the domestic league. This does not mean that we will need to give up anything from our organized defending. Paulo always spoke about the determination in the team, the club and in Hungarian football, and I can see what I have already heard. The best advice was obviously to accept the offer from Videoton, and to become the manager of the Fehervar club. There are plenty of talented youngsters at the club, and I would like to bring more young Hungarian players into the first team squad. The biggest challenge over the next half season, is for us to prepare and look at who those potential players are, which we can work together with in this project" replied José Gomes.

"I am also naturally happy that Nikolics will spend the spring season playing for Vidi, and he brings a great strength to the team. As to which young players will remain in the first team squad, from those who came out to our pre-season camp, has already been resolved, but I do not want to talk about this, before I have shared my decision with them first. The number in my coaching staff will not change, and with the departures of both Paulo Sousa and Ignacio Torreno, means the arrival of Jorge Mendonça and myself"

Jorge Mendonça, who has so far always been a coach at the clubs he has worked at added the following: "The Videoton project is a very good one. I came here to give my best knowledge in order to help the club achieve the best results. It is already clear to me that the club has several very talented players in the squad. It is a great motivation to me to be able to work with them. This is not just because they are the future of the club, but also of Hungarian football."
