Paulo Sousa: "We played better in the second half of the match. Basel had three big chances in the first half, but fewer in the second period. This was down to us controlling things better, but FC Basel still managed to score then. We arrived in Switzerland with a big advantage, when you look at the group table, and our aim was to protect this lead. If you look at the fact our opponents have very good players, and that you cannot compare their budget with our own, and that they have far more international experience than us, then you can also say that it was them who had to fight for their lives, and they did just that. We can go home with our heads held high, and prepare for the next very important international group match against Genk. We will play them in two weeks time at home, where we are stronger. Had we been able to gain a draw against Basel, it would have been very good, taking in consideration the other match in the group. We still have two more games in the group, and we will need to perform to our best in those games."

Murat Yakin: "The game began, and it continued, just as we had expected. Videoton played very defensively, but we still had several big chances despite that, but we were unable to score from them. It was important for us to play with patience. I was satisfied with my sides performance, and we dictated play throughout. I felt that we deserved to take the lead and win the game in the end. I was also pleased to see Mohamed Salah come on and do well, and it was he who gave the vital pass for Streller to score from."
