Videoton were in league action on Sunday afternoon against a Lombard Papa side, which had picked up some useful wins lately, to secure their own first division status. Vidi went into the match on the back of a run of impressive wins, which has seen them recently overtake Győr, to take second place in the league table. The club arranged a youth tournament on the Sostoi pitch, shortly before kick off, with many kids enjoying their experience on the green turf. The game kicked off in warm summer weather, in what was Vidi's final home match of the current season. Manager Paulo Sousa named his side with Bozovic in goal, a back four of Szolnoki, Hector, Vinicius and Caneira. The midfield also had a settled look to it with Sandor playing alongside Mitrovic, Gyurcso and Walter, with young Kovacs playing in an attacking midfield role, just behind Nemanja Nikolics. Videoton took the game to the opponents, in the aim of trying to get an early goal. The second minute saw a corner, which ended with Kovacs playing in Gyurcso, who went close with a header, but Szucs was equal to it.

Vidi created all the early pressure, giving Papa very little time or chance to settle down into the game. The first ten minutes passed off without much incident in front of either goal. The match did pick up after 18 minutes following another corner. Gyurcso turned and shot at goal, with Papa keeper Szucs once again alert to the danger. Two visiting players collided after 21 minutes, which saw both requiring treatment on the pitch. Papa's Gyomber was forced to come off as a result, forcing the visitors into an early change. There was a good chance on the half hour mark with captain Gyorgy Sandor, finding himself virtually alone 18 meters from goal. However, his shot went wide of the post and the score remained goaless. Kovacs then did well to break on the right hand side 5 minutes later, before cutting the ball back for Nikolics to hit first time at goal. The experienced Szucs was once again in the right place as he saved with his feet. The action continued with Gyurcso having the next chance 5 minutes later. His cross from the right ended with Sandor heading just wide. It was just a matter of time before Vidi would make the breakthrough.

The second half began with Walter testing Szucs, with the veteran keeper collecting the cross. Vidi went infront after 52 minutes, when Nikolics turned in the box and went down. The match official pointed at the penalty spot as a result. Nikolics picked himself up to send the spot kick to the left of Szucs to give Vidi a 1-0 lead. The home side then put the visitors under plenty of pressure for the next 15 minutes. Sandor, Gyurcso and Walter looked the most dangerous during this period, with Vidi trying to extend their one goal lead. The visitors backline was breached one more time after 68 minutes. Walter's fine ball in was met by the head of Nikolics to make it 2-0, helping the forward in his target of ending up top league goalscorer for the season, as he competes with Debrecen's Coulibaly.

Papa continued to bravely battle despite finding themselves 2-0 down. However, they failed to test Bozovic with a real effort as the Vidi defence stood firm. Torghelle came on towards the end to add his physical and aerial threat to the attack. He did well to lay a header into the path of Nikolics, but Szucs did very well to save that effort. The Papa keeper was the best player for the visitors, and without his contribution, the end result may have been larger. Papa's Arsic shot close to the end, and his team mate, Nemeth then broke in to the box on the left before firing over the bar.

So Vidi collected the three points to cement their second place in the OTP league table. They now travel to Budapest next Sunday, to face Ujpest in the final league game of the season. Second place is now all but mathematically certain, and the team have been very strong over the spring season.
