Videoton may have suffered a cruel and undeserved injury time goal, but they are still in the Champions league, with everyting to play for in the second leg on Wednesday 20th July. An even first half saw both sides try to gain the upperhand inside the Klagenfurt arena. Vidi were supported by a noisy 1000 supporters, who backed their side to the final whistle. There was plenty of good passing from Paulo Sousa's side as they looked to attack the home side, with Andre Alves causing problems for the Austrian defence. Akos Elek was running the midfield and his energetic display will have pleased the portuguese manager. Videoton did not come here to defend and they did well in the opening 45 minutes. English referee Stuart Attwell, booked both Liptak and Horvath, which meant that both central defenders had to watch their step for the rest of the match.

Graz, who were playing in Klagenfurt, due to their own stadium being unavailable, were also attacking when they could. With Hungarian striker Imre Szabics looking sharp with the ball, he needed to be watched. The second period kicked off with Videoton once again looking to get that all important away goal. Elek saw plenty of the ball and surged forward when the chance arose. The Vidi defence looked comfortable at the back, but that changed on 68 minutes when Szabics escaped the attention of his marker, before scoring past Tujvel, who could not do much. The red and blues went back on the attack looking dangeous and enjoying their best spell in the last 15 minutes. They created chance after chance, but as the old saying in football goes, if you do not take your chances, then you will get punished. The punishment was cruel as the English official added 4 minutes of injury time. Sturm went forward and Kienast poked the ball through the legs of Tujvel to make it 2-0 on the night.

However, Paulo Sousa will rally his troops and tell them that they are still very much in the tie. It is all to play for on Wednesday 13th July at the Sostoi stadium. A good crowd is expected and the home backing will be crucial, if Vidi are to have any chance of going through to the next round. In the end Vidi gave a good performance, impressing many with the football they played. Next week they will throw everything into it in the hope of progressing.
