The 18th Super Cup final takes place on Wednesday, when Videoton face Debrecen
The Super Cup final was first played in the 1992 season, when the winners of the league faced the Hungarian cup winners. The first final saw Ujpest beat champions Ferencvaros 3-1. The final was a two-legged affair from 2005-2008, before it was switched back to only one game from the 2009 season. The Super Cup might only be 18 years old, but there have only been 11 finals in that period. The Hungarian FA decided not to hold any finals from 1995-2002. Seasons 1995 and 2004 saw Ferencvaros do the double, which meant that there was no need to have the final.
Ferencvaros, together with Wednesday's opponents, Debrecen, have won the trophy the most times. Videoton have appeared in only one final so far, which was back in 2006. The two-legged match against Debrecen, saw Debrecen win the first leg at the Sostoi stadium by 1-0. The second leg was 7 minutes old when Vidi defender, Gabor Horvath headed in to make the aggregate scores 1-1. However, two second half goals from Dzsudzsak and Dombi saw Debrecen lift the trophy in the end.
A full match build up and match report, together with the thoughts of manager Gyorgy Mezey will appear here on vidi.hu.
