Stopira and Fiola extend contract with MOL Vidi FC

The two players have been key to the success of Vidi in recent years.

Further good news following the announcement of Akos Elek joining the club is that two key players, Attila Fiola and Stopira have extended their current contracts with MOL Vidi FC.

Attila Fiola began his career at Paks and made his debut for them in the NB I in season 2008-09. He helped Paks to win the league cup in 2011 and also was a member of their runners-up side in the league. He had already made his international debut for Hungary in January 2015 by the time he joined Puskas Academy. Bernd Storck called him up for Hungary as they played in the European Championships in 2016.

Fiola then moved to join Vidi on the 31st August and he has gone on to wear the Vidi shirt 78 times since. He was a member of the title winning side of last season. Fiola has made a total of 229 NB I appearances in his career so far. He has been capped 27 times for Hungary and 11 of those have come as a Vidi player.

30 year old left back Stopira signed for Vidi under the management of Paulo Sousa in 2012. He joined the Szekesfehervar club from Portuguese club Feirense. He went on to play a key role in the qualifying matches but suffered a broken leg in the final minute of the 3-0 win over Sporting in the Europa League. That injury forced him out for the rest of the year. He has been a regular starter since 2013 and was a member of both the 2015 and 2018 title winning teams. The autumn EL group stage was the second time that Stopira has played in them for the red and blues. He has also been a league runner up four times and once in the Super Cup. His has scored important goals like the headed winner over Bordeaux and the similarly crucial goal against PAOK in Greece. He has made 148 NB I appearances so far and a further 36 in European competition. There are a further 10 in the Hungarian cup and 1 in the Super Cup final. He has been capped 28 times for the Cape Verde national team over the years. A total of 20 of those have come while contracted to Vidi.

We spoke to Director of Football Zoltan Kovacs after the pair signed contract extensions:

"I am very pleased that two international footballers have agreed to extend their contracts with us. You can build a team in two ways: one is to keep valuable players and strengthen the squad. We have decided to follow this method. We are talking about two key players that have given so much to our game. I am thinking here about the league title win and also our performance in the Europa League group stage. I am pleased that both Attila Fiola and Stopira are both very good players and also men with good characters that we have managed to come to agreement with regarding the future." - commented Zoltan Kovacs.
