Dinko Trebotic: "I have arrived at Videoton with serious targets"

We spoke to the new Croatian midfielder about his past, aims with Videoton and the World Cup.

- Introduce yourself in a few words, what is there to know about Dinko Trebotic?

I was born in 1990 in Split. I started playing football during secondary school with my local team, Hajduk Split. I played for various age groups until the age of 18, before signing a professional contract with them in 2008. I then went out on loan to several clubs in the years that followed, with the aim of playing as much football as possible to develop quickly. In 2012, and after 15 years at Hajduk, I left them to move to the capital side, NK Lokomotiva, where I became a regular player for them in the last two seasons. I am an attacking midfielder, but can also play on the wing if needed.

- What have been your biggest successed to date in your playing career?

We finished in second place during my first season as a professional with Hajduk Split in 2008-2009. I also have a runners-up medal, which we won with NK Lokomotiva in 2012-13 after we finished in second. I also played in the Croatian cup final in that year. We lost 2-1 in the first leg in Split, but drew 3-3 in the return leg, which meant another runners-up medal with my team. I am also proud to have played for the U21 national team. My biggest dream is to play for the national team one day.

- If the future has already been mentioned, what targets have you arrived to Vidi with, what do you know about the team and about Hungary?

Naturally, when my name was connected with the Fehervar side, I started to do some research in to them. I already know that in the 80's, Vidi were not only a major side in Hungary, but also in European football. I am clear with the fact that they are one of the best sides in Hungary, and Videoton FC are the most professional club. The aim each year is to finish in the top three. I also know that Vidi won the domestic league title a couple of years ago, and that they produced a great run in the 2012 Europa League. Last season did not go according to plan as I have heard, but I can see that the players and coaching staff are all motivated to make sure that the coming season is much better. It is not even a question for me that my aim is to win as many trophies with Vidi in the years to come. From what I have already seen of the town and the stadium appeals to me. I can hardly wait to move in to my flat in Szekesfehervar to begin the new season.

- Finally we have to mention the World Cup in Brazil, and with you being a Croatian footballer, you’re also involved. How have the Croatian people back home summarized the performance of their own country?

I have to say on the whole that the people back home are all disappointed that we did not make it through the group. Sadly we will never know what would have happened, if the referee would not have made the mistake he made in the first match. We then played really well against Cameroon, picking up the biggest win in the group. People went in to the final game with Mexico with hope, as fate was in our hands. Sadly in the end we suffered a defeat and were knocked out, so the people back home are disappointed.
