Mate Patkai: Let there be another 59 game season

Vidi's midfielder scored Hungary's winning goal against Wales on Tuesday evening in the 1-0 win.

Another winning goal from Patkai helped Hungary to 9 points from 4 matches in the group qualifiers. Mate scored the winning goal recently at home to Croatia, which Hungary won 2-1. On Tuesday evening in Budapest, it was the midfielder who again helped his country to an important win.

"I am pleased to have scored another winning goal. This season has been my longest and most busiest season with match number 59 against Wales. I think that these type of games makes it worth waking up in the morning for. We woke up today to play in a good quality match and to collect the 3 points at home. Our dream came true and we behaved like a true team. The Hungarian team is not made of star players but there are really good team players. Look at the forward line or the midfield and even those in defence. We do not have a Gareth Bale, but we have shown many times that we function as a team and that can be important looking ahead. With regards to my goal, a player has very little time in these situations and I had some fortune with the ball going in off the defender. The national team manager asked for us to be close to Adam Szalai and try and ask for the ball when it went forward. He said it was important for us to get hold of the second ball. He repeated this at half time and the goal came as a result of this. I now have a week to relax before linking up with Vidi. We will be preparing for the Europa League at the training camp. It will be a short period to relax but it has been like this for years now. We have got used to this and it is not a problem. I am curious whether I can repeat this 59 games as it would mean us again making it into the group stage" - commented Mate Patkai.
