We spoke at length with Zoltan Kovacs regarding several matters.

As manager Marko Nikolic said at the post match press conference following the DVSC game, our team has more points than last season after 19 games. What do you consider to be the biggest step forward compared to where we were last year?
We are more balanced and our game has been more attractive, while also trying to score more goals than last season. The stability within the team has remained. This could be seen well with the fact that we had already lost 5 league games at this point. We have only left the pitch defeated in one game this season. We know that there is still a long way to go in the league season. We know that we have not achieved anything yet and there is still a lot of work until the end of the season, but I am pleased with the positives.
Several youngsters have been given the chance, while the second team is also doing better than last season. What do you think about their performances?
We have paid extra attention to both the second team and our youth system. You can see in friendly games that the youth players are in a good condition. They have been given the chance in friendly games and also in cup matches to show what they can do. Krisztian Timar and his coaching staff have been doing a great job with the second team. They are a good example for the youth coaches.
If anyone would have come out to watch the training sessions, then it would have appeared to have been thin with regards to players. This is due to several of them being away on international duty. Unfortunately, two of them returned back injured in the form of Mate Patkai and Paulo Vinicius, although Vidi still managed to come away from Debrecen with a good win.
We are proud that 5 players received call-up’s to the Hungarian senior squad. Sadly Attila Fiola could not join them due to injury. You can look back, and I spoke about this when we extended the contract of Adam Kovacsik, that we were talking about the future international keeper. I am pleased that I was not wrong. I was also counting on Jozsef Varga getting back into the national squad, as his qualities mean that he belongs there. I regret the injury that oth Mate and Paulo suffered against Costa Rica. We have lost two important players but this is part of football. Despite this, it will never be a question at Vidi about releasing players to the national team. A call up means that we are doing good work.
Things got rather hot in the game with Ujpest. However, we have since picked up 6 points from the two league games and have scored nine goals. Things had to be put right in the player’s heads?
We did have both individual and collective discussions. We want to win the league title and we have been going the furthest in European competition for several years now. I am sure that some of them hurt when they are provoked but they must not allow this to happen. I do not think that this will change in the remainder of the season. So it is important that we prepare suitably on the pitch. Naturally we read the comments after games and also the interviews. All we can do is laugh at them many times. Most recently the international midfielder of DVSC spoke about Roland Juhasz, which was far from accurate. We must not deal with this and all we have to do is win games. We have to do what we did against Debrecen and then people can talk about whatever they want to.
You could say that we have picked up unnecessary bookings in matches.
Yes, this is what I was talking about just now. This is part of football matches where not only the supporters, but also the players are very nervous. We admit that our players sometimes do not respond in a suitable way in certain situations. It appears to be a tendency for opposing players to provoke. There are leagues where referee’s deal with this but we cannot really see this within the NBI.
