Istvan Kovacs: The most important thing is that the team should be ready for the first league game

Our midfielder has reflected on the first week of the training camp. He also spoke about the game with Dinamo and why it is good to play against big teams during pre-season.

The second training camp is a week old. How would you sum up the work carried out so far and how do you feel?

Really good as we have been able to train in ideal surroundings, with the weather being good and the training pitches also excellent. The spirit within the team is also perfect. We could see in between the two training camps at the possibilities to train back home. We have played two games, which unfortunately did not go the way we had planned. I would say that it is better for the mistakes to come out now, rather than later. The team played the way the coaching staff had expected in the second one. All of the players who played in the game against Lokomotiv proved that they can be counted on. The first half went especially well. We also saw that we are fine mentally and can play against anyone if we put our minds to it.

We will play Dinamo Kiev on Saturday, which does not promise to be an easy task.

That is for sure. These Eastern European sides have really good players, and a good match against them really does help our preparations. You will find several top players within the squad of both Lokomotiv and Dinamo. I really enjoy these battles, which gives us a realistic picture of where we are at the moment. This is also backed up by the fact that these teams are also at the same stage in pre-season as we are. We need to play with the same unity as we did on Wednesday, and then I am sure that we will achieve results.

What is more important when it comes to self-confidence for you. Is it winning by 5 or 6 goals against a weaker side or to play in a match against a much stronger side that is much tighter?

Team confidence is one of the most important aspects in sport. The most important thing is for the team to be ready for the start of the spring season. Results are still important at the moment whoever the opponents are; we will always go out on to the pitch to win.

The end of the training camp is nearing the end. How much are you looking forward to being back home again and how much are you awaiting the first league match against Győr?

The second training camp has seen games coming thick and fast, which is more enjoyable than the first camp, which was all about training. It will be good to be back at home again and I am really looking forward to the real competitive games. We are still not there yet and we still have a lot of work to do, which I really enjoy, and there is no apathy within me. I am looking forward to the next training session and the match against Dinamo.
