Videoton FC produced a professional performance in their first key match of 2012. Paulo Sousa's side travelled to Miskolc in the league cup, quarter final, first leg tie, emerging comfortable 2-0 winners. A goal from Torghelle and Nikolics in each half proved enough. Sousa chose an experienced line up with Tujvel keeping goal for the Fehervar side. The defence had a settled look to it, with Brachi in his regular right back slot, with the central defensive partnership of Caneira and Vinicius. Young Szolnoki played in the left back position. Oliveira began the match on the right of midfield with Mitrovics, Sandor and Toth occupying the central positions. Gosztonyi also started the game on the left wing, with new signing Torghelle up front. 

The match began fairly evenly with neither side gaining the upper hand in the opening 15 minutes. The first real chance of note came on 18 minutes, with a cross on the right for DVTK falling at the feet of Tisza, who failed to connect and the chance was cleared. Vidi's first real chance came on 23 minutes, with Mitrovics cleverly realising Gosztonyi, but the home defender cleared the danger in the last minute. Oliveira's precise corner was met by the incoming Torghelle, who made no mistake to put Videoton 1-0 up! Diosgyőr could have levelled 2 minutes later, but Frizzoni's long range shot, was tipped over the bar by the alert Tujvel. There were further chances at both ends towards the end of the first period. The first came when Oliveira passed to Gosztonyi, who hit the post from close range, with keeper Farkas bravely tipping the ball away. Abdouraman then had a close range header go straight into the hands of Tujvel to make sure that the half time score would be 1-0 to Vidi.

Vidi played tactically in the second half. The home side saw more of the ball, but Videoton were always dangerous on the counter attack. There was a moment of bad luck for midfielder Attila Polonkai, who came on as a substitute on the hour mark. He had barely replaced Mitrovics before suffering a shoulder injury a minute later. He had to be strechered off and Jeff Silva came on for his first taste of football in Hungary. Polonkai was taken to hospital and more will be known tomorrow about his condition. There were very few chances in the remainder of the match, with the introduction of Nemanja Nikolics making Vidi more dangerous on the attack. A good through ball from Balazs Toth, with 10 minutes remaining, gave Nikolics a one on one, which the striker failed to convert. His shot was parried away by the Diosgyőr keeper Rados.  

However, he made no mistake in time added on to head home unmarked, following a good Gyurcso cross from the right. That goal gave Vidi a cushion to take into the second leg, which will be played on the 7th March at the Sostoi stadium. This was a good performance with Videoton doing what was needed to be done. They kept another clean sheet to confirm their strength at the back. It was a good day at the office for all concerned apart from the injury sustained to Polonkai. Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery.
