Gyereksarok994Már 1957-ben, kevesebb mint 19 évesen (!) a Kispest NB I-es kapusa volt a sorkatonai szolgálatát Budapesten töltő Varga József, aki a Haladástól került a vörös-feketékhez, de azt megelőzően szülővárosa, a Celldömölki VSE labdarúgója volt (ahol bátyja cseréjének számított a kapuban). Két idény és 20 bajnoki után Szombathelyre tért vissza, ahonnan 1959-ben igazolta le a Vidi (akkori nevén Székesfehérvári Vasas SC).
Egy évtizeden keresztül szolgálta a klubot Tímár Mihállyal együtt, mindkettejük számára több olyan rövidebb időszak volt, amikor első számúnak számítottak és sokévtizedes barátság kötötte össze őket. Több mint száz bajnokijából épp az utolsó kettő jutott az élvonalra, mindkétszer csereként állt be - például a Vasas elleni nyitómeccsen, történetünk első élvonalbeli találkozóján.
NB I/B-s bajnok, az NB I-es kiesés után gyakorlatilag visszavonult, az Ikarusba távozott, 2010-ben elhunyt.
