Photo106814 éves korától Fehérváron nőtt fel a bonyhádi születésű és 13 esztendős koráig Bonyhádon, majd egy évet Szekszárdon nevelkedő Babai.
A serdülőbe Németh Lajos által leigazolt, saját nevelésű játékosunk tiniként, 19 évesen egy Tatabánya elleni bajnokin debütált a felnőtteknél A Vasvári Pál Gimnázium egykori tanulója sokáig volt kerettag, mielőtt Kaszás Gábor jó érzékkel beállította a fontos összecsapáson, a húzás pedig fényesen bejött: Babai szó szerint első labdaérintésével eredményes volt, mégpedig csukafejessel.
A meccsnek azonban még nem volt vége és percekkel később ismét betalált, a Vidi pedig 0-1 után 3-1-re nyert. Kaszás Gábor halála után kevésszer jutott szóhoz, 1991-ben lejárt a szerződése és Ajkára igazolt, majd Szekszárdon, az NB II-ben töltött eredményes időszakot. A tolnai csapat csődje után Ausztriába, alacsonyabb osztályba szerződött, majd megyei szinten játszott.
