A key man of the Hungarian national team will continue his career in Fehérvár!
An agreement between the two clubs on Friday will see Zsolt Kalmár continue his career in Vidi!
The 32-times Hungarian national team midfielder was born on the 9th June 1995 in Győr, he learned the basics of football at the age of eight at ETO, and grew up in a real football family, as his twin brother and sister also played football.
At the age of 17, he made his debut in the reserves of ETO in the NB II, and then made his debut in the top flight against Honvéd in 2013. He didn't play long in Győr, as he was signed by RB Leipzig in the summer of 2014, already by then a three-time senior Hungarian international. He made 22 appearances for Leipzig and also played on loan for FSV Frankfurt and Danish club Brøndby.
In 2017 he moved to Dunaszerdahely, where he quickly became one of the best players in the Slovakian league, scoring 47 goals and providing 29 assists in 148 appearances for the Yellow and Blues. He has been an important member of their side on and off the pitch, wearing the captain's armband in recent seasons. He has scored 3 goals in 32 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2014, most recently against Greece in November 2022.
“I am very happy to be here at Vidi! Roland Juhász and I had several meetings and he gave me a positive vision for the future, so after seven years I decided to leave. This will be a completely new challenge for me, but I am looking forward to preparing with my new teammates. I've been following the NB I since I left and I think I can continue in a stronger league than Slovakia, because the Hungarian top flight has improved a lot since I moved abroad in 2014. Of course, I also took the national team into consideration when I decided to make the switch, and I would like to remain in the squad because we will be fighting for big goals there in the near future. I feel in good shape, although I've had less playing time in the last few weeks, but I'm sure I'll get back into shape soon and be able to help the team on the pitch as soon as possible. Our plan is to move to Fehérvár with our family so that I can concentrate on Vidi, but obviously it won't happen overnight, the most important thing is to get into training and make my debut as soon as possible." said the new signing after signing the contract.
"For those who follow Hungarian football, I don't think I need to introduce Zsolt Kalmár, as he has been a key member of the national team for many years. We could see his playing skills at first hand in the summer friendly match against DAC, he was a real leader, and it is no coincidence that he has been the captain of the team for years. He is at the prime of his career, has considerable international experience and is a good role model for the younger members of the squad. He has completed his training, he has played in every match so far this season, and I am sure he will be a great asset to our rebuilding team from the very first minute." said our sporting director Roland Juhász.
Zsolt Kalmár has signed a contract with our club until the 30th June 2025 and has chosen the number 13 shirt to wear in our team.
