On Sunday at 21:00 we will play at the home of Kecskemét TE in the 3rd round of the OTP Bank League NB I. This will be the 18th match between the two teams in the first division. Of the 17 meetings so far, we have won nine, drawn two and lost six. The goal difference is 32-22 in our favour, which has produced a three goals per game average. In the previous season, both teams scored three goals each, with the final score in all three game ending 2-1 - there were two wins for Kecskemét and once we were collected the 3 points. 

12 years ago, in 2011, we played against Kecskemét TE in the Hungarian Cup final, and our first champion winning side were defeated 3-2 in that match. The last time KTE played in the top flight was in the 2014/2015 season - before they were promoted again last year - and although they managed to finish 9th under the guidance of manager Bekő, KTE did not start a team due to the lack of a NB I licence, and the naming rights were practically extinct. 

In Kecskemét, the adult team of KLC-KTE SI remained the highest division team, which meant the County I championship, i.e. the fourth division. In the winter of 2016, Kecskemét LC Kft. was established, which took over the operation of the adult team from the sports school, and in the summer of 2017, Horváth Építőmester Zrt. (HÉP) acquired a 100% ownership share in the company.

In 2016, the team finished fourth, in 2017 KLC was relegated to second place in a big battle, but in 2018, with an almost flawless performance, they won the championship, and after a successful qualification against Hajdúböszörmény, the team was promoted to the NB III, where they finished second behind Iváncsa in the 2020/2021 season, but since the Fejér County team did not play in the NB II, Kecskemét could start in the second division in the 2021/2022 season. KTE finished second behind Vasas in NB II, and in two years the purple and white team made it from NB III to NB I, where the miracle continued, as KTE also finished second in NB I last season, and were able to play in the conference league in the summer.

Kecskemét played against Latvian Riga FC in the ECL. The Hungarian silver medallists won 2-1 at home, and away it looked like a 1-1 draw, but the home team scored the winning goal in the 90+5th minute to send the match into extra time. The decisive goal was scored by the Latvian team in the 120+2 minute of the 2x15 minute extra time, and the Kecskemét team bid farewell to the ECL in dramatic circumstances.

KTE forgot that disappointment with a good league start, winning their first NB I match of the new season 3-1 against Kisvárda.
