Bohdan Lednev: "Moving to Fehérvár is an important step in my career"

Our midfielder, who arrived in the winter, has been fighting for titles at Dinamo year after year, so he can identify with Vidi's goals to the full.

On the 21st January, we announced the signing of Ukrainian league winning midfielder Bohdan Lednev, who also has Champions League experience. The 23-year-old, who can play in several positions, made his debut in a Vidi shirt against Puskás Akadémia in the spring opener and will make his home debut against DVSC on Saturday. Lednev is motivated by the fact that, like Dinamo, he can aim high in Fehérvár and finds it an exciting challenge to prove himself in a new league. The highlight of his career so far has been his debut in the Champions League against Barcelona, but he will be looking to repay the confidence with goals and assists at Vidi in the spring. We sat down for an interview with Bohdan Lednev.

- You arrived in Fehérvár almost a week and a half ago. What are your first impressions, how has the team welcomed you?
- I'm feeling great, the players and the coaching staff have helped me with everything from day one, which has made my integration easier. I could see straight away that I arrived in great conditions, but the same goes for the attitude of my teammates, everyone wants to give their best in training. My debut match was not what I had in mind, of course, but unfortunately our opponents were able to win the match in an even game. I was happy to be able to play almost 90 minutes last Sunday, I feel I need a little more time and I can help the team with an even better performance.

- You came to Vidi from Dinamo Kiev, who are fighting for the Ukrainian championship. Was it your ambition to compete abroad?

- Most Ukrainian players have the ambition to play for the highest European clubs, and I was no different, I think that joining Fehérvár is an important step in my career. This is the first time I'm playing abroad, it's always a challenge to adapt to a new country and a new league, because it's a fresh start for a player. I will be looking to quickly prove to everyone that I was right to be trusted. Dinamo are a big club in Ukraine, where we have been instilled with a winning mentality, as year after year we have had the stated aim of winning titles - and that is no different here, so I can fully identify with Vidi's ambitions.

- What information did you have about Vidi and the Hungarian championship before?

- I had heard about the club before I was approached, because I also followed the teams in foreign leagues. I knew that we were talking about a team that strives for the highest goals every year and that aims to prove itself in the European Cup, as has been the case in recent years. These are the goals that motivate me, and I would very much like to see us not only fighting for one of the international cup positions in the league, but also winning the cup at the end of the season.

- How much of an advantage is it for you to now have four Ukrainian players in the team?
- This also played a role in my decision, I'm happy to play with three of my compatriots at Vidi. This is a great help for the integration, but not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch, in everyday life, my Ukrainian teammates, who have already lived here in Hungary, can help me.

- István Sallói, our sporting director, pointed out on your arrival that you could be a strength for our team in several positions. Which part of the pitch do you prefer to play in?
- I feel most comfortable in the ten position, but I've also played on the right wing before, which is also not a problem for me. It's not really important which position the head coach expects me to play, but to get as many minutes as possible on the pitch in every game.

- What are the best moments of your career so far?
- I would like to highlight two matches, both related to the Champions League, which is perhaps not surprising as it is every player's dream to play in this series. The first, when I made my debut at Camp Nou in the CL, it would have been difficult to make my debut against a team of greater prestige than Barcelona. And the second was against a Hungarian team when we played Ferencváros in the CL, as it was my first match in the Champions League, which helped us to finish third in our group and continue in the Europa League in the spring.

- On Saturday you can take to the pitch for the first time at the MOL Arena Sósto. What do you expect from the match?
- I'd like to thank our fans for cheering us on last Sunday, it was great to see so many of them travelling to away games and cheering us on during the game. I'm looking forward to the home debut, it's very important to get the three points against Debrecen and please our fans.

- What were your goals when you said yes to Vidi?
- The most important thing for me is the team, and personally I would be satisfied if I could help the team not only by playing well, but also by scoring goals and assists. But football is not an individual sport, so in the end it's not the number of goals I score that counts, it's the points we collect- so that's what I put first.
