Hungary's national team played out an excellent draw at Wembley with Nego in the starting line-up

Hungary picked up a point again in England after 68 years.

After a 1-0 defeat to Albania, the Hungarian national team had only a mathematical chance of securing second place in the World Cup qualifying group ahead of the clash against England in London. The English won 4-0 in Budapest in September, but that was not the only reason why they were considered as the clear favourites ahead of the match - mlsz.hu reports.

Hungarian international manager Marco Rossi's situation was made difficult by the fact that Attila Fiola, Endre Botka, Willi Orbán and László Kleinheisler were not available. The manager sent out a defensive trio of Ákos Kecskés, Ádám Lang and Attila Szalai, with András Schäfer and Ádám Nagy filtering the home attack, while Loic Nego was on the right and Zsolt Nagy on the left, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Roland Sallai and Szabolcs Schön responsible for the effectiveness of the attacks.

The Hungarian national team did not lie down against the English, who were the finalists of the European Championship, they played disciplined and organised football, while not giving up the opportunity to attack. The English national team could not gain any significant advantage and although they had more possession and more often got the ball into the front of the Hungarian penalty area, they were unable to put any real pressure on the visiting goal.

In the 23rd minute, Hungary took the lead, as Roland Sallai confidently scored from the penalty spot following a foul on Loic Nego. The home side could not get a grip on Hungary after the goal but finally equalised after a set-piece, Stones fired home from a free kick from the right from close range to level the scores at half time.

After the turnaround, the game did not change much, the English team had one or two more chances, but Hungary could say the same about themselves, getting in front of the home goal several times. The biggest opportunity was missed by substitute Filip Holender, who curled the ball over the goal from inside the box from the left. Hungary remained disciplined and organised until the final whistle, and deserved to pick up a point with the draw.

In the group's other two matches today, Poland took a big step towards second place with a 1-0 win over Albania, while Andorra beat San Marino 3-0. The Hungarian national team still has two qualifying matches to play against San Marino at home and away in Poland in November.
