Vidi's Fiola scores for Hungary in the 1-1 draw with France

The defender scored a fine individual goal to give Hungary a first half lead.

The Hungarian national team played its second match of the European Championship against world champions France on Saturday at 15.00 in the Puskás Arena. Marco Rossi, the national team manager, named two Vidi players in the starting line-up this time: Gulácsi - Botka, Orbán, Szalai - Nego, Kleinheisler, Nagy, Schafer, Fiola - Szalai, Sallai.

Hungary started the game well, with the Hungarian battling and fighting for every ball. Slowly the French took control of the game and their superiority showed in chances in front of goal. In the 14th minute, Benzema's shot was saved by Gulácsi who pulled off a great save, and the rebound fell to Griezmann who could not beat the keeper. Four minutes later Mbappé headed just wide of the bottom left from 10 metres. In the 21st minute, France tried again, this time with a header that went over.

Before the half-time break, Ádám Szalai had to recieve treatment and was replaced by Nemanja Nikolics. In the 31st minute, we saw the biggest chance of the game so far, with Benzema firing a corner from Mbappé just wide of the bottom left. Five minutes later Pogba hit the side netting. The English referee added 5 minutes at the end of the first half and it was then that the Hungarian team took the lead! Fiola played a one-two with Sallai and ran onto the ball with great pace. Our defender shot low and beyond the French keeper meaning the Hungarians going in at the break with a one-goal lead (1-0)!

France started the second half with a lot of energy, but the host sides defence was excellent. In the 51st minute, Pogba managed to shoot, fortunately just wide of the goal, and in the 60th minute, Dembelé hit the post. In the 62nd minute, Kimpembe got a hand to the ball inside the penalty area, but Hungary were not awarded a penalty. Hungary held out until the 66th minute when Mbappé's cross came off Orbán and bounced to Griezmann, who shot into the left side of the goal from 8 metres (1-1).

The world champions stayed on the attack, and in the 70th minute Mbappé fired a shot wide of the goal from the corner of the box. A few minutes later he missed again, this time from 17 metres. France's dominance was constant, with Gulachi having to save another Mbappé shot with 10 minutes to go. At the end of almost 6 minutes of extra time, Varane's header missed but the score remained 1-1.

After a tremendous fight, the Hungarian team drew with France, so they still have a chance to qualify, but need to beat Germany on Wednesday.
