The 2019-2020 Croatian second division championship competition was stopped and cancelled due to the coronavirus epidemic in March 2020, the league title was awarded to the Sibenik team after nineteen rounds, with Orijent finishing in second place. After the restart, a qualifier took place in August, in which Istra 1961, who finished ninth in the ten-team first division (1st HNL), was the opponent of Orijent. Istra won 3-0 in the first meeting, Orijent won 1-0 in the second, so overall they failed to gain promotion to the first division.

Tuesday's opponent are currently mid-table in the 2nd HNL, after seventeen rounds they occupy tenth position in the eighteen team championship, they have six wins, four draws and seven defeats, with twenty-six goals scored and twenty-five conceded.

They have already played a match in the winter pre-season, winning 1-0 against first division side Slaven Belupo last Saturday. HNK Orijent’s head coach is 48-year-old Damir Milinovic, who took over the team in August 2020. Milinovic was a defender as an active player, and between 1997 and 1999 he played for the Croatian national team four times.

The transfermarkt website values the HNK Orijent squad 1,08m €, and the average age of the team is 23,6.
